In The Superman movies, Krypton is depicted as a very advance civilization with technology far superior to are own. In Superman the Movie Jor-El was able to predict the destruction of Krypton and sent his only son to earth in a very advance space ship before the planet exploded into a million pieces. In Superman Returns Kal-El was able to travel to the site of Krypton’s destruction and back using the same technology his father once used. But both trips ended up in a violent crash landing back on Earth. With all their vast knowledge and advance technology, why couldn’t they figure out a way to land a ship as appose to a violent crash landing?

Maybe Jor-El knew a crash landing wouldn't do any harm to Kal-El.

To make it look like a meteor instead of a spaceship perhaps. To those things that aren't electronically interfered with.

Interesting observation...

I'm inclined to agree. Perhaps it wasn't so much of a technical misfre as a calculated effort to have the craft enter Earth's atmosphere in the most innocuous manner as to avoid suspicion.
