Okay, so I have this guitar. A Fender Mustang. It's very beautiful to look at and all. Tone is very bright, and I mean VERY bright. (Being it only has two single coils). Basically, I like the guitar, but I'm not getting all I want out of it. I'm toying with the idea of trading it in for a Fender Stratocaster. Mind you, the Strat would be a MIM (Made In Mexico). But, as I've heard from many people, it's hard to tell the difference. Or, the other choice I could have is to just save up for the Strat and make my Mustang a back up.
So, should I trade this:
For this?
As for the Mustang, there are lots of problems with the design of the guitar. (Which is probably the reason it was originally a student model)
1. There are these pickup selector switches above the pick ups where my hand comes down to strum. And if you hit it slightly, the sound will cut out because the switches will be out of phase. And me being an aggressive strummer, I don't want that happening during practice or performances.
2. The bridge is a pretty ridiculous design. It has a tremelo bar, but because of the floating bridge, the guitar goes frightfully out of tune when trying to whammy.
3. It's a real hassle to keep in tune all the time.
Basically, I want to trade looks for quality...(and looks too, I suppose). The strat is pretty much one of the most flawless guitar designs and with the three single coils and the bridge design I could get much more sustain. So...what do you think?
