Okay, so I have this guitar. A Fender Mustang. It's very beautiful to look at and all. Tone is very bright, and I mean VERY bright. (Being it only has two single coils). Basically, I like the guitar, but I'm not getting all I want out of it. I'm toying with the idea of trading it in for a Fender Stratocaster. Mind you, the Strat would be a MIM (Made In Mexico). But, as I've heard from many people, it's hard to tell the difference. Or, the other choice I could have is to just save up for the Strat and make my Mustang a back up.

So, should I trade this:

For this?

As for the Mustang, there are lots of problems with the design of the guitar. (Which is probably the reason it was originally a student model)
1. There are these pickup selector switches above the pick ups where my hand comes down to strum. And if you hit it slightly, the sound will cut out because the switches will be out of phase. And me being an aggressive strummer, I don't want that happening during practice or performances.
2. The bridge is a pretty ridiculous design. It has a tremelo bar, but because of the floating bridge, the guitar goes frightfully out of tune when trying to whammy.
3. It's a real hassle to keep in tune all the time.

Basically, I want to trade looks for quality...(and looks too, I suppose). The strat is pretty much one of the most flawless guitar designs and with the three single coils and the bridge design I could get much more sustain. So...what do you think?

I used to play my strat through a bass amp and it was a wicked sound.
The Chili Peppers guy used to do that too, though he still pumped the twang.

But dude, you can get different pick ups put into any guitar. You can customize it in any way, the neck, the frets, the action. Even the gauge of string will make a big difference.
The Mustang looks a billion times cooler than the boring old Strat.

But the main problem is that you're playing Fenders, which suck ass.
Gibson Les Paul = Greatest Guitar on Earth.

I agree with Wil. Get some different pickups.

I'll grow up momentarily and say that I'm just being a fiery fan for fun, 'cause of course if you're going to play Funk or 80's Pop, strats are a must.
But I can get my Les Paul to sound like a Strat.
You nEver gonna get a Strat to sound like a Les Paul, lol.

and even that's not true...I'm just a massive Gibson fanman.
It's like Marvel/DC. I loved a lot of DC comics, but I still have to say "Marvel kicks DC in it's pansy TEETH!"

I use to play a stat then i got an ibanez :) humbucker pickups FTW! :D

Haha! :D Every guitarist has their favorite make and model. They also have the one's that they hate with a passion. And all of them are different. I sort of understand. I can't fathom really singing in a live setting through anything but a Shure SM58.

That's the thing, it's all looks though.

I need something with a but more punch and a design that isn't so awkward.

stratocastor is the boss of all guitars. if you had the cash for it first, you shoulda bought it.

I like the specialization of knoweldge, 'cause I could write a book about the little differences that appear enormous to me, between guitars.
But then I hear a singer say that about a mic and I'm like, "Pfff, it's a MIC. Sing into it. :whatever:" lol

But yeah, the nemesis is Paul Reed Smith Guitars.
Those, seem like the Anti-Guitar to me.
Total, utter s***.....removing everything worthwhile and gorgeous about the guitar, while playing up eveything lame about it.

Don't even touch one. They're unclean.

it depends wat ur playing, but i say try and get sumthing u like that has humbuckers

BLASPHEMER!!!!!:cmad: :cmad: :cmad: :cmad: :cmad:

but seriously, I love PRS, those things are the perfect combination of a strat and a les paul, only much more elegant and expensive

Well, cool.
More PRS's for you.

God, when Carlos Santana picks one of those up, blood starts spraying out of my ears, puppies die, viruses start to mutate, becoming airborne, etc.

The feel, of the ones I've played, made me depressed...and the whole experience felt like fingernails scratching a chalkboard, just like, "Get me out of here!!!"

And then design wise, they're more "nice" and high-endy, and, in my experience, hideous. :(

My guitarist hates PRS as well, Wil. Says he can't stand the sound of them or how they feel in his hands. He does like both Strats and Les Pauls a lot, though.
