any ideas on how to make one? either the one from the hospital scene, or the one from the ferry scene.

im looking for cheap and easy.
not too easy, i do enjoy a challenge.

but cheap is my main concern.

If i were going to make one I would use some sort of computer PCI card for the main part and build around that, maybe attaching 2 LED lights powered by a 9 volt battery, then an antennae of course, and a key of course as well. But basically any PCI card would work but if i were making one id use a sound card, i have a ton of old PCI cards, ill try and make one and post some pics.

This is what i meant, oh and obviously ill have the LED wired to the toggle switch so it wont waste the battery all night long.

And .. Here.. We... Go.
Almost finished, this is best i could do going from just memory, still gotta add the LED and switch of course.

That is really cool man. Going from memory, I like it alot. Once you get the LEDs and such in there it will be even better. Good job!

Edit: Dang, 85 posts left before I get an avvy. :whatever:

Thanks, yea just have to solder on the LED but i may get reallllly crazy and actually hook up the LCD screen (upper left of board) its a number counter from and old electronic keyboard i ripped apart "circuit bending" (translation" being a huge nerd and making your own unique sounds from old cheap keyboards by soldering switches and knobs etc onto it) buuuut i doubt ill go that far in hooking it up,lol.

and for the techncally ******ed?... i mean i probably could figure it out...

actually that was a lie.

lol

i do have a buncha old computer crap all over the place though, i could do that. i just have no clue how to actually wire a battery to it for led's.

ill figure something,...with help that is.

Aw you can do it, you can use a regular cmos 3v battery too if you want to power the LED, just google "basic LED wiring" for schematics but "basically" you want to wire one wire from the LED to the neg end of battery the wire other end of LED to sinple throw switch, then wire the other connection on the single throw switch to the positive side of battery and basically there ya go. or you can just go to some dollar store and buy some cheap toy that has a bright LED in it(theres tons) even if ya dont wire it up i woulndt worry about it as long as it "looks" cool ;) and if your not handy with a soldering iron then just contact cement the crap on the board to make it look "techy"

well the take led out of dollar store toy was what i was going for. I'm great with soldering. Only problem is the key and ignition what you use.?

Lucked up and found an old riding lown mower key and then found some really big power button type thingy for a computer then just stuck the key in it snug, its just for looks ;)

I'm surprised anyone knows what it looks like, because I don't think there was ever a clear shot of it.

Dang, I want one now!!!!

boat scene when they open the box its in. and when the joker pulls his out (the part when he says "and here we go"

ClintF, you are a genius for the PCI card concept. i made this morning from what i could scrounge around the house.

I didn't find any LEDs handy, but I did find a bunch of spare christmas tree bulbs of different colors. I wired two of them up between a model railroading track switch and 4 AAs. I just glued and taped on some other random parts with a an old key that went to nothing important, i hope.

I know it doesn't look alot like the detonator in the film, but i kind of went big and cooky on purpose. For a costume prop, i figure that'd make it easier to recognize what its supposed to be.

I'm gonna make another one tomorrow, hopefully one thats much more sofisticated. The big red button on this one doesn't do anything which makes me sad :csad: On the next one i wanna find something i can wire up to it that will buzz or beep or make some kind of sound.

Thrash, this is best i can do at diagraming up how to do a basic hook up for a battery/switch/LED now you can just use a battery and tape one wire of the LED to the positive side then whenever you want the light to come on just press the other LED wire onto the negativeside but a switch is more practical. Again finding a small cheap LED toy and taping it on would be best/easier route for you i think, again its not gotta be perfect, just add some wires and boards and light and antennae and thats it.
Oh by the way all this can be bought at Radioi Shack for under 8 bucks or so,, but if you have any old elctronic parts odds are you can gut them and use the LED/wires/switch

Awesome thread. Great work folks! Does anyone have a screenshot of the detenator? The work here done is real good.

detonators.jpg

things to note... looks like to me they used the same detonator in all three scenes... the only difference is that the detonator on the civilian ferry had red tape, while the prisoner ferry had blue tape (i think). the joker's is hard to see, but it appears as if you can see red tape around the antenna.

also, if you wanna get technical in the operation of it... in the two small joker pics, you can see that he switches on the green LED before he plans to detonate it... although i cant exactly tell where that switch is...
