Any Sonny Chiba Fans On The Hype?

There are two errors in your post.
I never said I have the trilogy but that I am going to be getting it. So, I have no idea what the box set says. I only read a review of it somewhere over the internet. Not on the box set (since, as above, I don't have the set yet).
And second, I already admitted the possible mistake in a previous post.
As for Chiba, again, through the internet, but from more than just one reviewer, it was said that Chiba really liked Oyama and considered Oyama his mentor. But Chiba did study many styles and had other interests rather than just kyukushin karate, mainly his acting career. Remember, he devoted his career to 3 movies of Oyama. That's respect!
As for Oyama really liking Chiba, I'm going to keep silent until I read more but I wonder if Chiba was still really liked by Oyama and perhaps this is forgotten due to certain reasons I won't write about yet since I'm not sure.
Chiba wasn't a fighter most likely because of his movie career. I'm sure he could fight if he had to, though. As a martial artist, though, and as you agreed, Chiba was great (and IMO, the greatest on screen).

Cool man, we all like Chiba, I was just disagreeing with the favorite student bit. No matter though, he can kick up some trouble when need be.

Have you ever seen FIGHTER IN THE WIND? It's also a movie based on Mas Oyama's life. I think it was done in Korea. I don't know any of the stars and have no idea if it's good or not. It seems like it could be decent. I'm gonna try to pick it up when I get the Chiba trilogy on Oyama.

I picked up The Bushido Blade today....last time I saw it was when it originally came out, so don't remember specifics about it.
I actually haven't seen this one yet. I read it wasn't that great a movie, however, Chiba and Mifune are supposed to be excellent in it. I may try it.

Big Sonny Chiba fan here, have been ever since I first saw The Street Fighter when I was 12 years old. After the Street Fighter series, Shogun’s Samurai is definitely my favorite of his films. Karate Bullfighter, The Bodyguard, and Ninja Wars are a few others I have on DVD. Loved his role in Kill Bill, vol. 1, also. Undeniably one of the greats in martial-arts action film history.

Haven’t heard the best things about Bushido Blade, either. I’d be willing to give it a try, though. Just because it’s Chiba.

Cool!

It's great
Totally different style, but still really good.
The action is done by Jung Doo-Hung and he is amazing IMO. He's the best new action director as far as I'm concerned. He's also in the movie, he teaches Choi Bae Dal (Mas Oyama's Korean name) how to fight, and he's so great in the movie

As far as I know, Sue Shiomi is not in the series. Too bad because she's great as well. Plus, she stars in many of Chiba's movies.

As for the 5 series not being on ebay, I didn't think it was as I checked and only season 1 is available. Let me know on the cheapest price (including shipping) as there's a place or two that's not on ebay that sells the first season for about $50.00 to $55.00.

I just read she's on Season 3
Yeah, I  her, she is so awesome. You need to get Dragon Princess.
Chiba is there too, and his few fight scenes are badass, but this is Sue's show and it is great.

Yeah, 50 to 55 with shipping is pretty much what I've seen on ebay, sorry man :(

Fighter In The Wind is awesome! Great fighting, great acting, setting, music. It far outstrips Sonny's movies, but then it has a way huger budget just by the look of it.

Thanks for the info on the movie. I'm gonna definately pick it up then when I get the Chiba trilogy.

Since you seem to have alot of martial art movies, one other one I'll mention that I'm interested in (despite it not being Chiba or on anybody I know), it's called HERO'S FROM THE EAST. I've read great things on it. Do you know anything about it?

Well, let's hope they release the whole series on DVD so we can see Sue :cwink:. I'm sure they will at some point (the sooner the better).

Thanks for the info in your other post on Fighter in the Wind. As I mentioned to ChickenScratch above, I'll be picking it up when I order the Chiba trilogy set.

I'll ask you the same thing I asked ChickenScratch on another movie that has no stars I know of, but I've read is a great martial arts movie as it's a chinese martial arts vs japanese martial arts. It's called HERO'S FROM THE EAST. Any idea on it?

Try KARATE WARRIORS. It's my fav from Chiba and my fav martial arts movie ever. It's real cheap on ebay (less than $5.00).

I see it on Amazon for $6.87, also. Shoot, this puppy's mine.

Cool! Let me know what you think after you watch it. The fighting is second to none in this one. I feel Chiba's martial arts fighting and swordfighting are the best he's ever done in this movie. Believe me, this is Chiba at his BEST!

Heroes From The East is ok. But then I'm pretty particular about my MA movies being in karate for 22 years. It's a HK flick but they have the karate guys and the ninjas doing hapkido or even a slightly modified kung fu. As if putting a guy in a gi and saying it's karate would distract from the fact that he is not doing karate. But then I have yet to see a movie with ninjas where they do ninjutsu. The acting's pretty bad and non of the fights end in anyone dieing but I heard that's a creative decision on the director's part to show that no one style is better than the other, it's all about the skill of the person.

It's worth one viewing, but it's not something I would buy, but that's just my opinion.

I respectfully disagree there, my friend...

I think "Heroes of the East" is one of the best old school Kung Fu movies ever created. I totally get what you're saying about how they portray Karate, but this was actually one of the first times that Japanese martial arts were shown with respect on a Chinese movie (thanks to Lau Kar Leung), though the Judo guy was rubbish :p

Anyway, Yasuaki Kurata (one of the few Japanese action actors who has achieved fame in the HK movie industry) puts on a show, IMO.

But like you said, to each his own

Thanks for the two reviews. I think I'm gonna try it.
