Welcome to the Dragon Dynasty thread.

And what is Dragon Dynasty, you might be asking?

WIKIPEDIA IS YOUR FRIEND!

"Dragon Dynasty is a joint venture started by The Weinstein Company and Genius Products. The company was created on May 23, 2006 for the sole purpose of distributing films from Asian Cinema on DVD whose licenses are held by or will be acquired by The Weinstein Company. Dragon Dynasty showcases classic and contemporary Asian Cinema, particularly those films which fall under the action and martial arts genre."

Basically, a DVD company that was created to make Gammy happy forever.

Website: http://www.dragondynasty.com/

As some of you know, I am a HUGE fan of the Asian action genre, and that goes from obscure 70's Kung Fu movies, to modern Korean masterpieces like Oldboy, to funky 80's kickboxing police movies, etc, etc.

These guys are releasing modern Korean titles, Shaw Brothers titles, Jackie Chan titles, Sammo Hung titles, modern HK action titles, etc.

Not only that, they are releasing the movies UNCUT, with great special editions (sometimes 2-disc sets are available), commentaries, interviews and all kinds of extra features.

So if you like stuff like this, you might like this thread and its contents...
(I will be updating the thread when new titles are available)

Man, I'm spent :(

Great work putting this together Gammy  A number of these sets have hit the UK under the HKL banner, high quality stuff, and it reminds me i need to upgrade my copy of Hard Boiled.

The Protector was Warrior King in the UK right ? I thought it was a bit of a let down after Ong Bak.

Has anyone seen Born to Fight ? Ive thought about getting it a few times as the action looks awesome but the lack of a strong lead has put me off.

I own police story 1,2, hard boiled, and 36 chamber.

Still need to get crime story but I can't find it anywhere.
Oh and there website is getting on my nerves with not updating the trailers quicker.

Oh and I hope they pick up more Jackie chan movies.
I would love a better version of drunken master 1 and 2.

No problem
Even though I know there are few Asian cinema fans in here, I thought this would be a good idea considering the great work that DD is doing so far.

The Protector (Tom Yum Goong) was indeed called Warrior King in the UK, and I kind of agree with you. Ong Bak felt like more, I dunno....raw I guess?
But I still love it, there are some amazing action sequences.

You should get Born to Fight. Seriously.
What Ong Bak and TYG had in fight choreography, Born to Fight has in INSANE STUNTS.
Seriously, some of the stuff they pull off there is just too incredible to believe, I can't believe no one died during the production.

Oh and I hope they pick up more Jackie chan movies.
I would love a better version of drunken master 1 and 2.

Well, the Drunken Master R1 DVD is pretty good. It has a (mostly) Cantonese audio track, as well as an English track, and a great commentary by Ric Meyers.

Drunken Master 2? I definitely agree there :(
The R1 DVD is just *good* cause the image quality is great and it has the correct ratio (it also has a cool interview with Jackie), but it's dubbed (Jackie did his own voice though). It's not uncut though, they cut the last 30 seconds where Jackie was acting ******ed because of the alcohol, because it wasn't "politically correct" :whatever:
I think Disney owns the rights, and I truly hope DD can buy it them.
I would kill for a DD release, complete with extras and commentary :(

I only own The City of Violence, Hardboiled, and The Protector. Plan on getting many more. Definitely getting The Killer.

Most of those movies look awesome. I should start watching asian movies.

killzone definately has good action. the good thing is most of these titles are at blockbuster now

Killzone had aw wicked trailer but it was so boring, and I hate blockbuster. Its nasty in those places. I feel like talking a shower everythime I leave.

It's great to see there are other fans, you clearly are well ahead of me but It's really the first time ive seen many fans at all

I think raw is a good term to use, the fights were overdone and way to long in Warrior King IMO, at one point when he was fighting the endless horde of black suited henchmen i thought it became a farce, the tracking shot staircase fight was amazing though

I'll pick it up on that recommendation  i noticed a stunt on the side of a truck and i was :wow: he's gotta be dead:csad: Killzone has no UK release at all yet sadly but today i am gonna try to pick up City of Violence.

I'm buying The City of Violence now.Shanghai Express later.

Ah...the truck stunt. One of the many insane stunts in that movie, you're going to love it
Also, the main bad guy is Chatthapong Pantanaunkul (the bad guy in Ong Bak), and the fight he has with Dan Chupong...well, there's not a lot of complex choreography, it's more of an uber-brawl with some truly painful falls and hits

Ditto on that "farce" comment. I mean I enjoyed it and all, but it did feel like too much, plus I didn't like the 3 beefy guys at the end, they were so slow :down
But still, some good hits :)

Dude, import/download/whatever SPL a.k.a. Kill Zone, trust me :wow:
Also, check out my thread on the Vietname flick "The Rebel" (also, a future DD release)

I highly recommend The City of Violence. It's a very good martial arts film, with a good story, and good acting. And the end battle was fantastic.

I found it cheap, gonna put my order in, No such luck with City of Violence, the price was £16.99:cmad:

Those big monster dudes at the end looked like big wrestlers that should have been fighting Arnie in the 80's :D has Jaa got anything new lined up ?

I don';t have a multi region player and I hate downloading a guy like Donnie though:csad:, in fact i never download movies as i'm a collector

I think MR dvd players are quite cheap, in fact, I'm getting one just for some HKL titles and Spaced :D
But really, you can't miss SPL :(

Hmm...well, Tony Jaa is directing Ong Bak 2 (weird, I know  ) and it should be released this year (I doubt it, I think it's an early 2008 thing), and for some time he was doing "Sword", a weapon focused film, which was going to be directed by Prachya Pinkaew (Ong Bak and TYG), but nothing's happening on that front for now, sadly :(
