The characters being played by Cotliard (sp?) and Gordon-Levitt. The possibility of some form of 'Lazarus Pit' in that brief shoot over-seas. The casting of this Israeli actor as a 'mad scientist' type...

Nolan is a crafty son of a *****. Who has managed to surprise us before.

Anyone else getting the impression he's toying with us on purpose at this point? Trying to totally misdirect and mislead us?

Just like with a lot of TDK, I think we're all in for a surprise or two. I'm willing to bet most people are wrong with their guesses.

Yes.

I bet Nolan is no where near India or London. He's just set up a scapegoat crew to shoot there to divert everyone's attention.

Damn that Nolan! :argh:

I think it's more fans who wish and mislead themselves.

Honestly, I think some people here take Nolan's deceptiveness too far.

It's not like the man sits around all day thinking up ways to **** with us. I'm sure he has more important things to do - like direct a multi-million-dollar film.

Sometimes, the simplest answer is the best answer.

-Marion Cotillard is playing an original character.
-Joseph Gordon-Levitt is playing an original character.
-Alon Aboutboul is playing a "mad scientist" character.

Do not confuse "secrecy" with "deception." There is a difference between then two.

This. There are far too many people willing to accept rumors and assumptions as fact. Nolan doesn't need to do much to misdirect us when so many of us are already oh so certain that we have particular aspects of this film figured out.

People take Nolan's deceptiveness too far sometimes.

I don't think for a second that he sits around thinking of ways to mess with the fans.

In my post I was merely saying that everyone's guesses about the plot and character motivations may very well be way off from what's in the script. Much like they were for TDK earlier on.

I agree with that, but that not's what I'm talking about.

Making guesses/theories about the story and characters is one thing.
Thinking that every bit of information released so far is Nolan purposefully misleading us is another.

I simply find it amusing that we get casting announcements and character descriptions, and people's immediate reaction is "No way this is real. Nolan is totally throwing us off."

The fact is, for some people, Cotillard and JGL aren't playing characters that they expected/wanted, so they cling to this desperate hope that Tate and Blake are just covers.

Yes. Wisdom.

Very True.

Exactly. I'm fairly positive as you posted earlier that they are playing who they were announced as playing and not Talia or some surprise character later on. I'm just wondering how they're going to work Bane and Catwoman into this whole thing.

Deceptive? No, not at all. Some people just think they are clever and can predict the future or something.

Truth.

We are and will continue to be mislead on facts involving Characters, Plots, and other Info pertaining to TDKR while the film is in all stages of production until release.
People, such as "Lester" from Facebook, and other info leakers, are part of the reason why such diversions are created. Not to mention Nolans fixation with keeping his work tight-lipped until the very end of production.
If you've been on the SHHboards long enough then you know who to trust.

They're not misleading anyone though. People think they're being mislead because they think they can predict what's going to happen, who the characters really are etc.

yup. you'd think bane's link to the l.o.s had been confirmed the way it's banded around on here so much.

Yep.

Well, either that or Nolan is hiding the secret twist from us, which is that the "pit" in India is actually the footprint of the film's true villain: a fifty-foot tall Nekron.

Who resurrects Ra's Al Ghul.

I don't feel I'm being mislead. Anyone who does is misleading themselves, either through their own expectations based off what they think should be in the movie, or buying into speculation as news. Only a very small fraction of the info thread is actual, real info. Everything else is people [poorly] trying to put two-and-two together.

I'm not. Mr. Nolan is not spoiling it for us.

After seeing inception...

I have no doubt at all that he is planting an idea inside of our heads, and probably not ones that are true

Well remember what happened with Watanabe and Neeson? And Watanabe ended up being a decoy and was barely even in the first movie. And originally it was even Neeson announced as Ra's Al Ghul.

My opinion is this:

People should not have unreasonable expectations of say this being better than The Dark Knight. Otherwise they are just setting themselves up for disappointment. Look what happened to Spider-Man 3 after an awesome Spider-Man 2. I'm not saying it definitely can't be better, but I mean I'm saying just look at history. Third movie is usually a disappointment or not as good. I mean there are exceptions to the rule like Bourne Ultimatum at all but again exceptions to the rule.

I hope its a good movie but man with all these actors and characters I'm not sure how they can top it without diluting the story. I mean look what happened with the Pirates movies with all those characters and subplots and the third movie was three hours long and honestly an hour too long.

But that's an apples to oranges comparision, surely? Pirates was never planned as a trilogy, whereas Nolan's Batman was (despite what he says.)

I'm not saying the 'too many characters/subplots' complaint doesn't have merit, just that I don't think Pirates is a good example to use. Then again, I don't know how we can judge whether there are too many characters or not until we know more about the plot. On the face of it, the Dark Knight looked pretty overstuffed, and yet in context it all worked.

Context is everything. ;)

To me Batman is built for sequels and stuff because he's a serialized character so in my mind as long as the effort is there the character should have steam.

That being said apples and oranges and all at some point with sequels you almost always get a decline in quality at some point.

Also in Dark Knight it was mainly the Joker. And the cast was not as seemingly huge as Rises is turning out to be. I think the argument has merit looking at Spider-Man 3. And even the plan in the beginning was to have Harry Goblin, Vulture, and Sandman . . . still way too much. Then they turned it into Venom, Sandman, and Harry not to mention the black suit and you ended up with a super-crowded movie and story even at two and a half hours long.

I'm just saying, Rises will probably be over two and a half hours and people could start *****ing about it if its not as strong as Dark Knight.

I agree with Boom.

However, didn't Nolan cast Neeson as a 'European accented man,' or something to that nature? I'm not playing the card of "teh talia,' just remembering some of the curve balls we got in the past.

Neeson was originally announced as playing Ghul then it was like no he's playing Ducard a dude that trained Bruce Wayne and Watanabe was announced as playing Ghul. Then the script leaked and we heard what the big plot twist was.
