just because he laughs hysterically? Whether you liked his performance or not...it really wasnt like the joker....it was more like Frank Gorshins riddler on crack

I thought the Joker rip-off was TLJ's Two-Face?

I loved Carrey's Riddler.

yea, after watching it today. TLJ was terrible and Carreys riddler was pretty damn good.

They were both derrivitive of something else. Two Face was a Joker rip off, and Carrey was doing a really really bad impersonation of Gorshin.

yeah, Jim Carrey came off as Frank Gorshin after a coke binge. It was great though.

TLJ's Two Face started off soooo good in that first scene. Then it all went downhill.

I'm sorry but what does TLJ stand for again? :o

Both Carey and Jones were horrible in it, IMO. Carey was waaaaaaaay too hyper as The Riddler. Just look at him when he raids the Batcave, for example. The Riddler is alot more reserved than that.

I agree. I though that Jim needed to tone it down for the Riddler. Rids is not that over the top of a character. That was of my issues with Forever was the directing of the villans. TLJ was terrible as Two-Face also.

I don't think TLJ was terrible as two-face. As far as a villain goes, he was fantastic. It's the script writer's fault for writing 2 face like that. TLJ is a great actor, if they would've made 2face dark and troubled, I'm sure he would've nailed it perfectly and we'd be asking if Eckhart could live up to that. Schumacher wanted him to play it wacky and flashy and TLJ did that....wonderfully. I'm not at all a fan of Schumacher's version of two face, but I liked it for what it was.

Same goes for carrey, but I would've liked it more if they went with more of the opposite villain team. Carrey's riddler could've been like Gorshin and toned down a bit, but still a little wacky. And two face could've been the straight man, the tragic character. That way you got a serious villain and a funny villain working together, and towards the end they could've even turned on each other. But we got what we got.

well first, I never heard of Carey's Riddler being a Joker rip off. I have heard Jones' Two Face being a Joker rip off though, and is somewhat true.

Carey was a bit over the top, it was okay at times but a bit much at times as well. He just needed to smooth it out a bit. Jones would have been, in my opinion, an excellent choice for Dent/Two Face. At times he seemed like he was really gonna nail the duality of the character, but most of the time he was just a bit too abrasive for a character that was supposed to be a little more calmly intense, if that makes any sense.

Anyways, in my opinion, none of the villains were really done right in the first four films (I know I'll catch a lot of **** for that on Nicholson) but really guys, I am sick and tired of hearing how good Nicholson was as the Joker. I'm not going to say he was bad, he wasn't, but I still just don't really care for him as the Joker, I don't know what it is.

I liked Catwoman and Penguin, but they were pretty far from what they were supposed to be.

The villains in Begins were done perfectly. Especially Crane, he seemed to jump right out of the comic and onto the screen.

I never saw Jim Carrey as a Joker rip-off. I just saw Jim Carrey as... Jim Carrey.

Not really, he just wasn't as methodical and didn't seem like as great of a genius as he should've been made out to be(As Edward Nygma was in the comics)...He nailed the insane jealousy factor, though- and the ego of him trying to become the greatest figure in Gotham...IMHO, Carrey is very capable of playing the part to a T- that particular depiction just wasn't it...I blame the script and partially the direction, personally...

The Riddler wasn't always portrayed as a supergenius. Generally just as someone who is adept at riddles.

Carrey's Riddler was no Joker. He was very much in line with the comic book version from the late 60's and 70's.

TLJ's Two Face had no Harvey. I still hate the part where he keeps flipping the coin until he gets the results he wants, kills the whole point of the character. His "good" side was completely superficial. The Drew Barrymore character that represented that side actually helped in criminal plots.

I never saw Jim Carrey as a Joker rip-off. I just saw Jim Carrey as... Jim Carrey.

I think that's a little more accurate than Joker rip-off. Just how people criticize Jack's Joker as Jack not playing the Joker but playing himself in Joker make-up. You could say the same about Carrey in BF, Ace Venture: Super Villain.

Have you ever READ those comics? Probably not!

Of course I have. Most of the time, he was a cackling nutjob who left riddles and used them in his crimes. He was rarely portrayed as a super genius, but rather as a man with above average intelligence and an intense pathology. Granted, almost every Batman rogue was a cackling nutjob at one point, but that doesn't change the fact that The Riddler was one at one time.

The "serious Riddler" (oxymoron if ever there was one) is a relatively recent invention stemming from BTAS.

You have probably just looked at the covers.

The Batman Forever Riddler is definitely not the Silver AGe / Bronze Age Riddler.

Pfft.

It's just another movie where Jim Carrey was paid gratuitious amounts of money to play Jim Carrey.........with a Green suit and question marks. I wasn't impressed by his acting, so much.

Tommy Lee Jones' Two-Face was very different than anything he had done before. I'm impressed by how well he pulled it off (despite it being very different from Two-Face himself.)

TLH should just have played Two-Face the way he plays all his roles.
