So I'm having a difficult time translating this equation/application problem. I need someone to help me understand the answer.
The total amount of money (in cents) in x nickels and (x+3) dimes. (noting the value of a nickel is 5 cents and a dime is 10 cents)
So I came to the answer that:
(5)x+10(x+3)
gives me
(15x+30) cents
I'm having trouble translating my equation into english.
I know (5)x means (5)=5 cents, and that x is the amount of nickels. I know 10=10 cents, and (x+3) is amount of dimes.
So does is this correct? That 5 cents times the amount of nickels plus 10 cents times the amount of dimes gives me 15x+30?
