The Dark Knight Anyone think Alfred is haveing too big of a role in the new movies?

Well technically the words "then" and "than" are both separate words, it just depends on their usage whether its wrong or not. Like if I said BB is greater THEN B89. Thats wrong. It should be "than".

Haha, that was a drunk out burst disregard or whatever.

I love what Michael and Nolan did with him, turned a rather dull character into a father figure.

This have been happening a lot before BB.

That said, I agree about having Alfred greatly involved in the plot.

thats my problem, you see. he never was a main character in the comics and in the movies because hes pretty boring. ok, because BB was an origin they could get away with haveing more alfred bringing up bruce and showing him the way, but in the future nolan films they should keep alfred away from being directly involved with the main story, he should go back to doing what he does best, BEING THE DAMN BUTLER. like i said, i dont want these movies to start turning into the (corny) spiderman movies. someone mentioned earlier that it would be different from SM 3 because he doesnt have a alien on him and hes making himself darker. alien or no alien, that is pretty much retreadting the same ground as other movies of the same genre, and if done, will look like a obvious ripoff. see, thats another cliche that i hope they will try to avoid. personally, i wouldnt mind a dark sinister storyline along the lines of Batman Returns, a dark tale with really dark villians with evil motivations and batman becoming darker in the process, but without the corny dialogue. thats what im hopeing for in TDK. BB really wasnt all that dark. hopefully the DARK knight will be much darker then its predessesor. from the really weird, creepy pics of the new joker, it looks tobe something like that. they are doing to joker what they did to penguin, i guess to bring some fresh life to the character.

No it's just prefect , Finally Alfred is more than just a butler (In the live action movie world of BATMAN) He's The Father figure of both Bruce Wayne & BATMAN .

BTAS got Alfred right , and so has Nolan now .

i liked alfred TONS more in BTAS. he was still the Butler but also careing about whats going on. in begins he was, ahem, Cockney, and he had many corny one liners and like someone said, sounded very preachy at times. thats why im not too into him haveing a huge role in the movies, he should be involved, but kept at a distance. i love michael caine...just not as alfred too much. caine for me just wasnt alfred, he was michael caine. at least the mustache helped oldman transform into gordon (who wouldnt?), but caine looked and acted like Caine. you guys can disagree with me, its what i expect anyway. but those are my feelings. especially after all that wizard world stuff, i expect most of you if not all of you to disagree with me, but i really dont care.

Anyone thinks Alfred is having too big of a role in the new movie's?

And the answer to that million-dollar-question is: NO! He doesn't have to big of a role at all! I love Michael Caines Alfred, he's absolutely brilliant! He's sort of the remaining father-figure of Bruce Wayne. He's practickly the only one Bruce can talk to about everything. He's the one helping Bruce through the difficult times, and is there for him when he needs it! He's just like Aunt May in the spidey movie's! Only, Alfred isn't irritating as hell, like Aunt May is! He doesn't make me roll my eyes everytime he's one-screen, like with Aunt May! Alfred is really GREAT!

well he made MY eyes roll. guess everyone is different. if your a spiderman fan, you'll love aunt may and hate alfred. if your a batman fan (of the newer movies), you'll hate aunt may and love alfred. both IMO are corny as heck, and are way too sentimental about a guy who dresses in tights.

Uhh... I absolutely LOVE spider-man! The third not so much as the other two, but still... and I STILL hate Aunt may! Her constant hero speeches and such makes me hurl my lunch!!! Michael's Alfred is tons better, and is not irritating in any form... They make him work beautifully! He's not corny, I dont get where you see this.

I think Alfred is getting the perfect amount of screen time, were just seeing enough of him to know how he acts as a father figure to Bruce. They have to show the relationship between the two because Alfred is all Bruce has.

Who was there for Bruce after the death of his parents? Alfred is no ordinary butler-he probably nevah was- even when Thomas Wayne was around. Alfred is not just some back of the head that Bruce looks at from the back of the Rolls. Too big a role-hell no!

Alfred should have a mustache.

?

Why shouldnt Alfred have a bigger role then he has before? I think its great that there giving him more of a role to help set it apart from the other films.

Sure some of the others have made him a father like figure who gave advise but this version just seems more legit, like he actually matters to the story.

Man some of the complaints on here are just.......wow.

Well see in BTAS there was a whole hell of a lot more flexibility and time to get Alfred involved, what with all the seasons, episodes, etc. His character is never going to dominate an episode but over the course of just a few of them its understood how much he means to Bruce. Here we have a 2 hour movie, where it must be understood that Alfred is pretty much all Bruce has for a family. He has to be shown to have an impact in his life and as a source of guidance within that character's screen time.

Aunt May is great. Raimi sucks at speeches. And humour. I blame him.
