Just seeing the guy being referred to as Magneto, while wearing the gold and blue, and NOT Evil made me nearly cry.

Funny thing is, I stopped reading comics in the early 90s before he sucked his way... I mean, crashed his way into x-comics.

My first thought upon seeing him was a very articulate and heartfealt "WTF???!!!!"

Their thought proccess puzzles me.

You'd think someone would've said "Hey Morrison, we *need* Magneto to be a viable character. Turning him into a Nazi then killing him in a very graphic manner won't help that. Don't do it."

But instead they okayed it and the month after he left they were panicking because one of their major characters was ruined.

Ah c'mon. By now you know Marvel has concocted an even LAMER retcon that they're holding on to until they decide to go ahead and resurrect Jean.

Hmm. You know, they could technically combine all of the Jean retcons into one big retcon, and THEN throw this whole new Skrull thing out there.

We'll make it so the REAL Jean is STILL in a cocoon somewhere on Earth... And every Jean since then has been a horrible alien invader. It'd effectively erase most of the Phoenix stuff from Jean's history, and would lead the way for the new Cyke mini "The Search for the REAL Jean Grey... Again"

But in semi-seriousness... I don't know if Marvel would be willing to "kill" Cyke again. I can see Sinsiter dying, but I think in the end he'll cut a deal to "save" mutants and be allowed to disappear into limbo again.

Cyke and Sinister killing each other and going down in a blaze of glory would have about every x-fan going 'OMFG, did that just happen???'

That, and it wouldn't take much to make such a scene thematically appropriate...

Oh it could be a great scene. But the problem would be that Cyke's whomped Sinister before... To no permanent avail. So they'd have to find a way to absolutely confirm Sinister's imminent death or it wouldn't carry as much weight.

Maybe if Cable gets axed by Gambit/Sunfire and Cyke spontaneously combusts Sinister will just go ahead and off himself... There'd be no more Summers blood on Earth for him to **** with. He'd be horribly depressed.
