Do you think Critics are being too harsh on Aquaman? Do you agree with some?

I think we can all agree that this dtauing betwern a 70 and 80 is fantastic news! I dont get the panic, i mean, this is the second DCEU film to finally have a fresh rating on RT. Thats just good news all around

Colour me shocked via the RT reaction (so far.) 76% and there are major trolls laughing at this thing. It's truly and rather baffling to me that such trolling of epic nature for DC exists. And it's real. It's damn real. Again, the expectations for DC is so incredibly high. Here we have Aquaman, with just some years ago a character fans thought we'd never..ever see in Cinema and one of pop cultures most laughed at character ever doing over 100 mil in China and sitting at 76% on the infamous Rotten Tomatoes and it's getting picked on because it's not getting TDK percentages? Ludicrous! If Aquaman lands as Certified Fresh then that's a big win for DC critically..without QUESTION.

At this point, fairly confident that worst case scenario might be 65%.

The percentage will not move too much now, unless all the incoming reviews will be extremely negative. Hopefully, with the amount of early positive reactions, that will not be the case. Still this is just my conjecture.

Some of it isn’t even trolling, just DC fans who for some reason seem to think these results are bad even after how much worse all non-WW DCEU films scored. Surely most would have taken this a year ago.

I definitely think it’s a better spot to be in compared to after Justice League, BvS, Suicide Squad or Man of Steel. My reaction is less “this is bad” and more “it’s looking good so far, but we are not completely out of the woods yet”. I’d be more comfortable if we’re 100 reviews in and still in the 70s...

I get what you mean. I’m in the advantageous position of having just seen it and the current level of being in the 70s seems fine. Any less and I think it would be harsh. There’s no way anyone could seriously compare this to Suicide Squad. I’ve got no hesitation in calling this a good film. How good and whether others view it as very good or a more borderline good is up for debate though and I wouldn’t have strong objections to either. It’s certainly fun regardless of how it is marked critically.

I have a feeling Wan really swung for the fences and delivered a crazy, colorful roller coaster ride of a movie that you're either on board for or you aren't. Which sounds great to me.

Sad when a 6. something score and 70's range Tomatometer is a "win" but I guess this is where we're at with the DCEU or whatever it's called these days. Aquaman was one of my favorite characters growing up and I can't get excited for a major film about him. Oh well. I guess I'll catch this film at some point. It's a comic book movie, after all.

Thats exactly what it was. Some people might find it lowbrow for their tastes but I think most are going to enjoy it.

You’re not that much of a fan if the opinion of 63 other people can stop you from seeing the first movie this character has.

Not sad at all. Pretty solid, especially when a director goes fantastical with an under water sea adventure. Wan seems to of brought fun, story, magic, heart and wonder to Aquaman. What more can you possibly ask for.

I still find it sad how much RT have become this dictator on what movies we watch. Especially comic Films.... and ESPECIALLY DC. Smh

That's what I got too. I was expecting fresh but lower RT actually, but happy that it exceeded it.

Because based on early reaction and now reviews, this movie was being praised and criticized by essentially several same things.
Positive: It's bonkers, cheesy in good way, goofy fun.
Negative: It's too hammy, too much, too cheesy, too goofy.

Some even said that they still couldn't processed it/ couldn't believe what they saw. I think someone also said that he initially lukewarm but love it after second screening. Some also said just enjoy the ride without taking everything way too seriously.

It depends on the person.

So Batman 89 is a bad movie then. Sad!

Batman (1989)

Never said I wasn't going to see it. Just not terribly interested in Aquabro's version. Being a fan doesn't mean supporting every version if it doesn't look that appealing to you.

I'm glad that you're excited for this, Tra-El :)

OK? :hehe: B89 is not a great movie, but I love it because it's one of the movies that I grew up with. We ended up getting much better Batman movies at a later time with TDKT ;)

Considering the widespread negativity and narratives surrounding this universe, especially after JUSTICE LEAGUE, I think anything in the 70's or higher with THIS character would be a solid critical win for the DC film universe. If audiences flick to this film and it makes money, it's a huge win all around.

In the pantheon of characters who have been mocked, ridiculed and in some cases deemed unfit for a film, Aquaman is king. I don't see why anyone is poo pooing a 70-75% Rotten Tomatoes score.

If there's anything that critics like late in the game, it's to follow the crowd. I would think this is about where we will see it end up.

Happy to hear that. I've been championing this movie for quite some time because I had full confidence that was Wan's vision, he spoke a few years ago about how he wanted a Raiders sort of swashbuckling-adventure feel and I knew right then and there we were in good hands.

Cool. It certainly feels like he had freedom on this and there’s no evidence that I noticed to suggest any tampering by the studio. This should be exactly Wan’s Vision we are seeing in front of us.

i just seen that collider review, and after that i just rewatch their Thor ragnarok review, and all i gotta say is, we dont need to think we (as a dc fan) are paranoid anymore

its a fact, some reviewers has a problem with DC a huge problem, maybe they are excepting only greatness from them ? somebody tell me, even theses screen junkies people, that was one of the funniest review i watched ...

"its fun but messy at time" "cheesy dialogues" "movie doesnt take himself too seriously" ..did they point it out when they were reviewing ragnarok ?...funny thor droopin jokes while he just lost his people ?....hell no

...look at this boring captain marvel ,how they are praising it.., remenber when they were ready to call WW a Mess because "one insider said"

crazy stuff

guys just wait a week or few days to watch it then get your pitchf..... tridents out

First, lets not go after each other over opinions. That isnt cool. I hope I Am The Knight sees the film but it isnt some slight if this version doesnt get him hyped.

As for Collider they suck and always have. It isnt bias, they just arent very good. I never put much stock in fanwank sites like that.

Collider also put a print review by Vinnie Mancuso.
It was pretty positive.

I'm actually pretty psyched by even some of the negative stuff I'm reading. I'm fully prepared for a cheesy, swashbuckling adventure that doesn't meet critics standards for storytelling greatness. From what I can tell of the critical reception so far, it's a win for DC and something that they can actually build and improve upon unlike the Snyder directed/inspired messes they "delighted" us with these past few years. And I think it's fine that we are getting a mid-tier movie as a jumping off point for a new type of DC cinematic universe. That way there's very little risk of complacency and replicating a formula that can be perfected (like they did with TDK).

I'll take an imperfect but colorful, fun, heartfelt movie over a self serious snoozefest any day of the week.

I have noticed differing opinions from the people there. It's weird... They need to clarify that there will be more than one review from them.
