I'm watching the second disc of ROTSS, and the make up guy says how he got a great new Thing make-up that looked more like The modern Thing and everyone thought it looked great, then he says but we just went with something else.

WTF!

Why not do something that looked great and everyone agreed, and the fans would have liked.

I am so sick of hearing about nothing but changes to these comic book films! They are the way they are just leave them that way! they are poular for a reason and have been for decades. So many have tanked 'cause they have changed them too much, now they have to remake them instead of moving forward. If they hadn't have messed with it in the first place they wouldn't have to fix it.

Stay faithful!!!

The Spidey movies are the only ones that have done that well 'cause they stayed close enough, more than the others.

The fans do matter, other people do not, it'll make more money if it's faithful!

Just like in the FF, it could have been better if Galactus was in it, last time I checked it was 2007 and they have the technology for that now, like how cool he looked in that Marvel Legends game.

thing should have looked more like the modern thing that everyone loves and he looks better than what they came up with, even that new look in part 2 wasn't good enough.

alicia's not black.

Doom should be more of a strong character.

Reed comes off too wimpy, he's not that wimpy.

And by casting someone who is not white as a white woman, sue, they try to make her look more white and make her look strange instead, and no it is not believable that she is Johhny's Sister.

The director's ******ed plain and simple.

And none of them can act and those that could in other stuff act like they forgot how to act in the FF films, but what's his name that plays Johnny is the only one who does a good job and is believable as that character from the comics.

everyone else sucks.

The Silver Surfer was very good, and this one was better than one, but man they need to stop changing crap and quit treating the core audience like they don't matter, if it wasn't for the fans there wouldn't be any of this!:cmad:

yeah, who cares what color someones skin is, as long as they have the character right...and Alicia is just like she is in the comics...you're one of those racists who doesnt even realize he's a racist, like the anti-MCD as Kingpin people...he was exactly like the Kingpin from the comics, and was the only feasible man for the job, yet people like you probably hated him in it just cause he wasnt caucasian.

Looking cool in a video game doesn't automatically mean he'd look cool in a movie. I doubt general audiences would be as awestruck as comic fans to see a giant in a purple and blue suit with a geometric flowerpot on his head. (That's not to say I don't like him personally, though)

yeah galactus would of been more remnicent of the stay puffed marshmellow man to non comic reading moviegoers

You cannot film a comic book. When adapting any prior medium to film (be it comic, novel, true life event, television show) changes must be made to make this medium work for film. You have to be truer to the film medium than to the source material. It is the first rule when adapting something for film.

Comic movies are not the only ones to suffer changes. It happens all the time to games, true events, novels, etc.

Have you read The Lost World by Michael Crichton? I did, and the movie was almost NOTHING like the book...just the name. Now, changes shouldn't go to an extreme like that movie, but changes happen all the time, and us comic fans saying that we are the only fanbase to suffer changes is flat out incorrect.

Now, have I agreed with all the changes they have made in the movies? Of course not. I dislike like a lot of them, but we honestly can't expect perfect adaptations with zero changes. If that is what you want, prepare to be disappointed a lot.

Are comic movies the only genre that tries to alienate its core audience?

No. Just the only genre where the fans are so closed-minded that they refuse to accept even the most minor changes made to translate to film.

There was an interview with the director of FF4 he gave an explanation of why glactius was changed in the movie. Its on darkhorizons.com,but to make it short, its so they can use the gay ass purple suit for the SS movie.
My view is what works in comics/video games/novels doesn't always work on the big screen. Its two different group of people they are trying to attract. Is it important to follow comics/novels etc.. to some degree. Ya have to allow the director/writers/producers their own artistic version of the material, all that other stuff is just guide-lines. I don't expect them to follow source material to the tee,and sometimes its probably for the best. Im not so anal about the 'have to follow the source material to the exact dialog, costume outfit', its just not the way to do it.
If ya go into a comic movie, video game movie,or novel based movie and expect the exactly the same you will be sorely disappointed most of the time.

Anyone notice that this jackhole hasn't been back to his own thread, he probably realized that he was wrong for what he said or he felt extremely stupid like he should feel. So what if an actor is a different race than their comic counterpart, as long as they can act does it even matter. even though fantastic four one and two had it's problems they were decent films. I do agree with one thing Chris evans pulls off a perfect Johnny storm.

As someone mentioned above, translating from one medium to another does not always yield the same results. Going from one medium to another is not a one to one conversion like it's money you are changing at the bank. What works on the page may not work on a screen, what works as a hit record may not lend itself to be adapted into an opera. Things have to be changed to fit the medium, tools and the best people possible for the job.

I never understood why people cry and moan about adapting from one to another. One should not affect the other since they exist independently of each other and each work of art should be judged on it's own merit rather than on some relation to something that exists outside of itself.

There's a whole world of difference between static images on a page and text bubbles versus live action. One can't be both at the same time.

Feeling alienated because something is different is just immaturity rearing it's ugly head because what's on the screen doesn't jibe with what you want. Fact is, it's not what you want, it's the people entrusted with bringing the project to life.

I could do one of those things where I quote the entire first post, but break it down in pieces and respond one paragraph at a time, but I simply don't have the strength.

I will, however, say that I liked the way the Thing looked in both FF movies.

smart move, save your energy for someone who really deserves it.

Bourne Ultimatum wasn't one bit faithful to the book as well, but fans and critics loved it. That's how it is - you can't just exactly convert a comic book to cinema. If that's the way you want it, then hire Joel Schumaker. Things have got to be changed around if you want a successful comic book movie.

I do like both FF 4 films - the sequel much better than the first. And Fantastic Four is my all-time favorite comic book. But first off, this is what bugs me with complaining fans:

1. The Thing is perfectly fine. You want to see him more comic-like? then see the Roger Corman FF4 film. The Thing is as close as possible to his comic book look. I can't believe fans complain about his brows or whatever else.

2. Jessica Alba as Invisible Girl looks awkward in both movies. They did something strange with her hair and her make-up, but this again, this doesn't matter. Sue Storm is a vanilla/nothing special superhero. She's as plain as the color white in the comic books. She gets crushes on Submariner and Silver Surfer, but that's about it. Not the most interesting Marvel superhero. Jessica Alba, as awkward as they made her look for these films, is still pretty damn hot in it. Be happy that it wasn't Reese Witherspoon playing her.

3. Mr. Fantastic as well, not the most interesting superhero character in the books. Besides his awkward hair and not the greatest chemistry with Alba, it's no big deal that he's that wimpy. And they did give him some better lines in the sequel, when he explains he's not the quarterback.

4. Alicia being black? Who cares! Making Alicia black would not be the same as making Mary Jane or Gwen Stacy black. Alicia is just Ben's love. They could have made her Chinese or Arabic for that matter. Alicia is at the same level as a Betty Brant. She's in the comic consistently, but come on, they aren't that important.

5. What's so wrong with Doctor Doom? His chemistry with Mr. Fantastic is great. That's all that matters. His outfit is fine and he kicks some ass. How exactly do they want Doom to act? Not powerful enough? He gets his ass kick in the comics all the time. He always loses and comes back.

6. Human Torch and Silver Surfer are spot on as most people agree, so no need to talk about that.

7. I agree about Galactus though. He should have been in the film. He does not go away, so what difference does it make where he shows up in this sequel, or in a third one, or in a Silver Surfer flick. He's just a big Zeus dude. And he should look similar to his classic look.

Comic books, video games, or anything that has ever had a cult status among a certain group will always be over scrutinized by its fan base.

what have you got agauinstR.W.?

I read elisha cuthbert was up for this role as well

There was all kinds of rumors flying. Jessica met with Tim and I believe Ioan at the time, and she got the role. I don't know that Fox ever officially announced anyone was up for the role. Elizabeth Banks was talked about, as well as a few others I believe.

Alba is hot and everything but she just isn't right for this at all but she has been doing okay

The problem with the internet is that the people who are posting when they're rabid, even though a lot of them are smart, are a very small portion of the audience. I mean, incrementally small. They're a very vocal but very small group, and not necessarily representative of the broader audience. - Goyer

Because its apropriate.
