Has Batman hurt the genre where costumes are concerned?

I don't like the Daredevil costume because it looks like a biker jumpsuit. The logo needs to be bigger and centered. I hate that they made the mask like a helmet.

I don't like the Cap movie costume at all, but maybe it will look better on film.

And there's always a chance it could get updated in Avengers anyway.

Fully agreed on Cap, somewhat agreed on DD.

I do think that, based on the trailers, the Cap suit does look better in motion. But it still wouldn't be my first choice and I'm still hoping for a better one next year. What I really hate is how the movie disrespects Cap's traditional suit by turning it into a cheaply-made parade outfit. It's like they're telling us they could have dressed him in something more comic accurate, they just chose not to.

I saw some leaked Avengers posters on another forum, and in it Cap had a costume closer to the comics. I'll post it when I'm not on my phone.

Is this it? It is a lot better.

^Yeah that's the poster. It does look a lot better. I'm glad they added the wings.

I think its about context....Batman is out there fighting dirty murderous criminals so people expect his suit to look like it can take a beating

I have always wanted the X-men to have a uniform look, I liked the old uniforms from the 60s, the black and gold ones

they should look like a commando unit IMO

Wholeheartedly agree.

I liked it. The main gripe I had was that the mask was not securely attached to Matt Murdock's head, but I do find it interesting how they incorporated that into the story.

I kind of like it.

I like this one too. I am also glad they didn't use Hawkeye's 616 outfit.

He's not naked, the area between Haweye's purple stripe and Thor's cape is his knee. You can see the ripped pants right under Thor's cape.

Along with stripes instead of straps, better colors and a better mask. It's like they made the other one intentionally crappy so we'd appreciate this one more.

Ok-now that we've seen both Spider-Man and Superman in a dense, rubbery material and Catwoman is apparently running around in goggles, let's revisit this discussion.

Spider-man's new costume sucks. I understand them wanting to move from the Raimi costume, but did they need to go that far? They could have just used black webbing on the suit instead of silver webbing like Raimi did. You really don't need to think too hard with Spidey. Just don't mess up his classic costume.

With Superman it looks a little bad, but that's only one shot. It could look better in motion. Even then it doesn't look that bad. It just looks pretty rubbery.

Agree. Make the webbing black, maybe a little thinner, and with eyes of a different size and shape, and there you go, a different costume.

I disagree. Superman looks great.

The biggest thing I don't like about the new Spider-man costume is that the webbing is barely on the suit. That's a classic part of the Spidey costume, and it's just a bunch of lines on the new suit.

Spidey also has those silver bits on his boots that look awful. People were saying at first it's just stunt shoes or an early costume, but it's clear from the trailers that it's not that now but the actual costume.

That and it doesn't even look like webbing. And now we got Selina Kyle running around looking like Naomi Price and Bane wearing a respirator, presumably in the name of "realism". I guess Batman's the only one who can wear a mask.

Neither Spider-man or Superman are affected by Batman's costume at all.

I'm fine with it. Not all of them have worked, but in general, I really dig the modern cinema version of a superhero.

i think batman has hurt batman when it comes to costumes. everyone is so afraid of his tights look since the campy batman came out. now they try so hard to stay away from it. look at the modern captain america suit that is how you do a "spandex" type suit. it look so comfortable and cap looks nimble in it.

also look at batman arkham asylum type costume, that could work in live action as well. like i said batman only hurt batman. the avengers suits prove you can do superhero suits and not look cheesy. thor is a big example, that could have gone really bad, but they managed to do it right.

I think you have to look at each superhero within his own context. Spider-Man is light in tone for the most part, so the tights fit the context.
I'll never get how anyone can think the Spider-Man tale is "light in tone". I think the costume fools some people...or maybe because he tells jokes when he fights?

The guy is one of the most miserable heroes in all of comics, is hated by the public/cops/newspapers, and operates under a burden of guilt from causing the death of his uncle.

Agreed. The comic Batman costume is great...and we'll never see it on a movie screen.

Batman's look work for the movies and I find his costumes (sans the Bat-nipple costumes and to a degree, the TDK costume) better than the comics. I find no problem with Batman's suit in the movie. Just because it wasn't in the comics doesn't mean it's bad nor is it tragic. I honestly don't care if we ever get the live action black and grey suit. I love the all black suit.

Batman's look is right in the movie. Accurate? No (unless you count the 90s Batman comics where he actually did where an all black costume) But not wrong.

Spider-man is light in tone because he doesnt dwell on the miserable-ness of his life. The majority of his stories are light

Well to be fair, you know diddly squat about what is transpiring. You don't know if a cowl will appear or not, but it's nice to see you jumping the gun this fast. And how do you Bane's mask is a respirator? You don't.

Stop whining and wait for the full trailer in December to make a better argument.
