Ok, this is a long standing disagreement Hubby and I have. Everytime we see a professional dancer on T.V. Hubby believes them to be gay and I believe them to be straight (maybe it's a subconcious preference thing - he doesn't want the "challenge" and I want to believe in the "possiblities" ;) ).

So I'm checking the Hype consensus on the matter.

It's like any other substrata of culture in our society; some are straight, some are gay, some are sexual omnivores. Why is this even a question?

Well, if I can prove Hubby wrong then I can choose which of us is playing Beauty and which is playing Beast tonight ;)

Heh. You said "sexual omnivores." That alone makes that statement sig-worthy. LOL

Anyway, I do agree with your assessment to an extent, although I do believe there might be a higher percentage of gay men in that profession than most realize. Ditto for the bodybuilding world: Some of the most masculine, buffed dudes you see flexing in those competitions (complete with naked, blonde-haired bimbo-types draping off their 'ceps) are tricking for wealthy fat cats and other men on the low.

its just a stereotype based on old views that dancing is a womans thing. Gays are wrongly classed as feminine so its confusion. They aren't all gay i mean look at k-fed.

Well, if your Hubby's contention is that ALL male dancers are gay, then I'd tell him to pick out the lingerie he's going to wear for the evening for your amusement. That's a silly notion. What the percentages are of gay vs. straight vs. sexual omnivores (that was just for LS) in professional male dancers is I doubt you're going to settle here. But, I can prove your husband wrong with just one example, even if it is rather horrifying: Kevin Federline. He was a professional male dancer when he got involved with Britney Spears. Now go pick out the shade of lipstick you want your husband to wear tonight.

I've heard similar rumors about a lot of pro-wrestlers. We should go over to the pro-wrestling thread and tell people that. :D

should rephrase this to are "good professional dancers gay" then in a word, extremely...

I hear it as a wholsome AM radio Gordon Lightfoot song...
"Trickin' for fat cats ooooon the down low..."

Well, I'm not a professional, but I am a dancer [not ballet]...

There's never a 100% when it comes to stereotypes. I'm a cheerleader, actor, AND dancer, and I'm damn sure I'm straight.

I haven't really met many other male dancers, but I have yet to meet one that's gay... I've met probably close to a hundred male cheerleaders so far, too, and not a single one has been gay [to my knowledge, anyway]. Like I said in another thread, most of the ones I've known are more likely to whip your ass and sleep with your girlfriend/fiance/wife than they are to plug a dude's butthole.

I have met a gay actor, however, and it's also a somewhat-well known fact that about 80% of Broadway actors are gay.

Not 100%, though, keep that in mind.

Haha!

"Trickin' for fat cats on the looooow down,
I love my golden-haired honey but she ain't got money,
And I need just a little somethin' moooooore....
Before I train for my next shoooowwwwwww."

Yeah. Kind of melancholy like Wichita Lineman.

Chip and Dale kicked ass

That episode of SNL with Farley and Swayze as Chippendale dancers was hilarious

they may not all be homosexuals but they are certainly all gay.

Ah, and here is the post that has the potential of transforming this discussion into a multi-page thread. lol

What do you mean by that? Gay is a synonym for Homosexual.
