Are You Single???

I agree with Slim, its like when I go to the store and buy cheese. They're called Kraft singles, but they come in a pack of 20. What the **** type of conspiracy is this?!?!?!?!?

I don't understand that either. I was with this girl who didn't like labels so despite doing things that i feel would constitute "more than friends" I was still just a friend and she was still single? Oh wait she had a lot of guy friends like that !! :o :o I was used!
That has happened with me before. We flirted in class, did stuff together all the time. We never had sex but we did other stuff and I asked what she thought about becoming exclusively bf/gf and she said she likes what we have now because of the no-constraints. I personally don't like licking, touching, smelling, or kissing something that another guy probably did the same thing to a few days before so I broke it off.

On most forms, true it's either single, married or divorced and occasionally widowed. However, this is usually reserved for medical, government type applications.

You are arguing semantics about the word "single" even though if you think about the word itself, "single" means solitary, one. So saying I'm single in reference to relationship means the absense of a partner or mate. I don't really understand why this is such an issue.

Did you not read anything about context and how words change meaning according to that context? Single doesn't always mean alone or solitary. I could be traveling "alone", but on a plane load of passengers. How? Because I'm traveling without my family or a friend. Practically, I'm not alone because others are on the plane. Technically, I am alone, because I'm not with my family.

I know this is hard for you guys to wrap your heads around. But if you are not married you are single. That is your legal status. Period. This is not semantics. Payroll, employment, housing, insurance, banking etc.....all have you check the box. Which one do you check??

Why the **** do you care anyway? Deal with your own damn paperwork.

Since you're having so much fun arguing semantics and such, I feel it only right to point out that you are incorrect. Civil unions are also recognized as legal status that affects which "box you check" on all those forms as well. And many people who have co-habitated together for a certain period of time can also legally file joint status on such forms if they live in a common-law state, no marriage or civil union certificate required. A formal marriage is not the only way to garner that status.

Still, all legal status aside, the vast majority of American citizens (read, everyone but you) would consider using the term single as referring to anyone who is not in a committed relationship, irregardless of marital status.

I'm single and have never felt an urge/reason/need/desire to have a relationship with someone.

Relationship doesn't equal friendship

I really don't see how you people can be so f-ing lonely when you're single. Don't you have friends?

I meant a different kind of lonely. There is a certain void that, unfortunately, my friends just can't fill.
