Arnold Is Back for Terminator 5

What a dumb thing to say.

I'm in the no Ahnold camp. He's too old, his inclusion would make no sense and quite frankly I'm sick and tired of his awful acting schtick and looking at The Last Stand, I'd say the majority of people are to

That's why The Last Stand has been #1 in home video sales right?

There are some iffy Direct-To-Video releases that have also been #1 in home video sales, it isn't always a measure of critical or GA success.

The Last Stand absolutely tanked at the box office, which said a lot to me considering it was Arnie's big solo comeback (his work in Expendables 1 & 2 amounted to glorified cameos, really).

I may just be crazy but I actually like his performance in T3 quite a bit. I like how the idea of him as a surrogate father is expanded further. But then again seeing as we both agree on T:SCC I can see future Terminator films without him. Sometimes I feel the franchise is too scared to do anything but rehash the same ideas over and over. T:SCC did use some of the same ideas but also introduced several new ones.

The idea of a surrogate father is a nice idea, but like Octoberist said, there is this self-awareness in his performance. I can't blame him. That was a huge paycheck and Cameron even told him to get that money.

Frankly, I'm done with Arnold as a Terminator. He had two fantastic films. Leave it with that.

LOVING the T:SCC love here! And Teelie you just made my day with your comments!

I don't know anyone who thought it would be his great comeback but I also don't know anyone who expected it to do so badly either. I'm getting it tonight from Netflix so I'll be able to personally see how good/bad it is compared to his old stuff.

i dont really want Arnold back either. i wish they would bring Bale, Howard, etc. back because it was a good cast but a bad script. although i xdont see them returning

I love Bale but I don't want him back. I wasn't fond of his performance in Salvation and generally just think that he is wrong for the role.

I'm on the "Arnold is too old" team as well but the problem is that he IS The Terminator.
Recasting him is impossible, it's like trying to recast Indiana Jones in my opinion.
Maybe they will find a new angle for the movie with an Arnold who doesn't look awkward.
Anyway, you can't milk the franchise so much.

Maybe they should stop making Terminator films? Okay so that's not going to happen. How about the stop spending 200mil on the films and actually get a good script together for once?

i will always love Arnold but i can smell the slight desperation in the air. Trying to reclaim what was once his...I mean, if you look at his future projects, it rings true. Triplets, Conan, and Terminator 5. Again, I love the guy but yeah..he kinds living in the past ain't he? A little disconnected.

The Terminator films can keep going indefinitely if they were more wise about the scripting and actors. But they keep tying Arnold to them which makes it increasingly harder to pull a James Bond and recast the characters.

I don't think it's a terrible film, but it's very average. Kinda does what I expected it to do. Arnold still manages his master trick of being the worst actor in the entire cast, but still manages to command the screen more than the rest of them.

There was a bit of hype for it beforehand as it was his first full leading man role since he quit acting to run for Governor.

Did people forget what a crappy film Terminator 3 was?

What is Arnold going to do in this film? Rehash a plot again?

It's over. They need to move this franchise along, not live in the past.

The series has hit a brick wall. That's for sure. On the other hand, Conan hasn't...*

*that's debatable but there's more stories to tell with old man Conan.

Totally agree.

Very few actors nowadays have the size, menace, presence, charm and intimidation that Arnold had in the original 1984 film (and T2, to an extent - though IMO he was made more kid-friendly in that movie). I also felt his Austrian accent (which no doubt sounded Germanic to the average joe) really enhanced this idea that he was a cold and calculating machine, perhaps human in terms of looks but totally devoid of compassion or emotion.

Dwayne Johnson is one of few who spring to mind; he could probably play a Terminator very convincingly, but he seems to be suggested for everything nowadays. It's a good mark of his abilities I guess.

I don't see why the Terminators would need to be big.

Remember the T-1000? Robert Patrick? Ordinary looking guy, scary as hell.

Also, seriously, Dwayne Johnson? C'mon.

They don't have to be big, not all of them. But I think when it comes to the T-800s (who lack the advanced features of the later terminators like the T1000), sheer size and raw strength makes them intimidating as hell.

Another thing, why are there still T-800's?

That bugged me in Terminator 3. The Skynet that made the T-800's from the first two movies was stopped / destroyed in Terminator 2.

Somehow (courtesy of a blaring plot hole), there still ended up being a Skynet, but its creation was delayed by like a decade, yet it still ends up creating killer robots called T-800's who just happen to look like Arnold?

It's too bad the show got cancelled, probably the best thing that happened to this franchise since the end of Terminator 2.

Unfortunately, Arnold thinks this is his franchise, as opposed to really being about Sarah and John. I really wanted a follow up to Salvation, with it being in the hands of a more capable team behind the camera. Only McG, those two idiot producers, and those God-awful writers and make Sam Worthington a more compelling actor to watch than Christian Bale.

Christian Bale to return as John Connor and Tom Hardy as T-Bane 2000.

It's on.

Does seem that way. I thought that With Wings as Eagles project by Randall Wallace sounded like an excellent choice at this stage in his career but maybe that was too highbrow.

Not I. T3 was ass.

:hehe:

I could actually see Hardy being awesome in a Terminator movie with a good script. I'd rather see him as a future soldier though.

Not gonna happen anyway (probably).

I'm also in the "Arnold is too old" camp, but for that matter I'm also in the "no more Terminator movies" camp.

This series is like Alien. Two good movies, then all downhill ever since. They should have stopped at Terminator 2.

This, pretty much. Not that I dislike T3 and TS as much as others do, but I can definitely see where folks had a lot of problems with them.

I agree. Mainly with the stop making Terminator films.
