Was re-reading McG's plot for the sequels...

Terminator Salvation was to introduce a new trilogy, consisting of Salvation, Terminator 5, and Terminator 6.

In statements to FilmJournal, McG revealed his plans to have the movie set in 2011, pre-Judgment Day - similar to Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles revelation that Judgment Day takes place on April 21, 2011 - and to bring back the chase feel of the original trilogy.[1] The plot had Skynet discovering how to send non-Infiltrator Terminators such as Hunter-Killers and Harvesters through the Time Displacement Equipment. John Connor goes back through time to fight the machines using present day military tactics and technology while being pursued by a new model Terminator. While in the past, he meets a 60 year-old scientist played by Robert Patrick, who is researching cell replication and was to become the template of the T-1000.[2] McG also planned to have Sarah Connor live until 2011, which would have retconned Terminator 3's plot of her dying of leukemia. Rumors circulated that the film would take place in modern day London, despite the fact that both Terminator 3 and Terminator Salvation state that Judgment Day happened in 2004.

The only thing I like in that whole plot summary is the idea of bringing Robert Patrick back.

I liked Terminator Salvation and would like to see where things go from there.

Salvation wasn't awful, I mean I liked the action scenes and visual effects but it wasn't good enough to continue. I hope they get an interesting director this time and stop trying to up the ante special effects wise. The movies aren't better and the don't make enough money to cover it so the studios need to stop spending 200mil on these films. Come up with an actual good story and characters for a change.

So much negativity.

Just being honest. I don't live in a fantasy world.

The Terminator franchise has been **** on more than enough already. It's as if people think a 65-year-old Arnold coming back is going to just blow us all away or something. (PS: He'll be even older whenever this film starts shooting, if it ever does)

I don't either but thanks for the insult.

I remember people saying the Batman franchise was dead after B&R and Karl Urban's Dredd film being a failure critically towards fans and critics. Just because two films didn't compare to the previous two films doesn't mean the franchise is dead. There's always going to be a possibility that someone can take it and make it great. I'm at least staying cautiously optimistic and as for Arnold's age, by that logic Clint Eastwood should've retired a long time ago.

Are you seriously comparing Clint Eastwood to Arnold Schwarzenegger?

You don't really see Eastwood playing the Man with No Name or Dirty Harry anymore.

Schwarzenegger is an action star past his expiration date.

Right, the Batman franchise WAS dead and they started over, which is what I suggested they should wait to do for Terminator.

Someone definitely can take the Terminator franchise and make it even better than great. But the previous series continuity is already all kinds of ****ed up, and the nostalgia of having good ol' Arnie back is not going to save this "sequel".

Not gonna comment on your Clint Eastwood statement because that doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

I always thought the reversal of the original premises would be interesting.

The humans in the future send someone back to destroy Skynet, and Skynet sends a terminator back to ensure it comes into existence.

Either way, if they do a reboot, now with all our grand special effects, it would be cool to actually show time travel from the future as it happens. Make that like the opening.

All they have to do is show Kyle Reese being sent back in time, but that would mean the end of the franchise so they're being too much of greedy *****es to finish the story.

I'll be revolted if Arnold is playing the Terminator again without having his face CGIed.

I understand Kane's point. He believes that The Terminator can still be good again, in which with the Time Travel elements and careful planning, it could be good again. A better example is the X-men series. Two unsuccessful movies but after a successful one (critically), it's a hit or two away from being a viable franchise both critically and financially.

With that said, despite your absolute belief that the series is dead, I agree that keeping it dead for now and waiting to reboot it in some way would be a better idea. Do I think the series can return to former glory? Yes, especially considering Star Trek did it only 4 years ago. Will it? I doubt it.

CGI ain't gonna help Arnold. He is too freakin old and there is no rule to say that all Terminators have to look like Arnold.

If they want to reboot this series then they should just do it and I think they should do it by capping the budget at 80-90mil. Come up with a more personal story for once. I love T2 more than the first one but this new movie should follow the first film's less is more approach. I know I keep saying the same thing but it's worth saying.

I don't want Arnold involved, honestly. I know he was the star of the first three, but this series belongs to John Connor, IMO. Bringing Arnold back for T3 was a mistake.

I want a recast for Connor though. I love, love, love Bale but he is not my idea of John Connor. Sure he is miles better of an actor than Furlong and the less said about Stahl the better but he still isn't quite right for the role IMHO. I know a lot of fanboys will disagree and either say that he was fine or working with a bad script and I respectfully disagree with them. I don't see him coming back anyway but I had to say my peace.

JGL.

He'd make a great older Connor and he could've played a great young John in T2.

I too just want a reboot, I never thought I would say that, but they are going to continue to make Terminator movies, there is no question about that. There really is no stopping it either. So to me the options on the table are sequel continuing in the universe, a loose sequel (which I would prefer more) or a flat out reboot (which would be my first choice).

I have some hope with Megan Ellison behind this, but I'm still....worried. I just think to start over would be the best option. But I guess we will have to see where this goes.

I guess you see John as a bit more of clean shaven paragon?
I don't really know, I just don't see him as C. Bale. I guess Bale is just to cold to me, it's a messed of future so ofcourse Connor is going to be cold to a certain degree but the way everyone talks about Connor I always saw him as being less angry than Bale's Connor and a little more inspirational. They tried but I barely got inspirational from Bale's Connor. He just seemed like angry action guy with 50 percent Batman voice.

JGL.

He'd make a great older Connor and he could've played a great young John in T2.
Lets build a time machine and go back and make that happen! JGL is a fave of mine and I would like an actor like him to get the role.

I remember reading a Terminator novel when I was younger that was pretty incredible (maybe at the time?) where it was an older John Conner and his mom hiding out in like Brazil or something and they meet the man that they base the Terminator model out of (obviously a badass) - would be a great way to bring back an older Arnold without him actually having to be a Terminator.
