Astonishing Marvel: New Imprint

I'm surprised there's no Astonishing IronMan. He's sort of become marvel's golden boy the last few years, you would think they would have included him in this shindig. Not that i'm complaining, just saying. lol

An interview said they're going to add to the line, I believe. They might give us an Astonishing Iron Man in time for the movie or just after the movie hits, since this line is ostensibly aimed at new readers (even though that price point seems a bit extreme for drawing in newbies).

You know, i applaud marvel's efforts at trying to bring in new readers all the time but i feell like they're trying way too hard sometimes. It feels like every time i read a marvel solicitation it says " PERFECT JUMPING ON POINT FOR NEW READERS!!!". Theres already stuff liek Ultimate, Marvel Adventures, not to mention this new Heroic Age already seems like a clean slate for new readers to jump on...is this Astonishing stuff necessary? Plus why exactly is Astonishing X-men being rebooted?

I pretty much just consider it a continuation of Ellis' run. I mean, this mini is called Xenogenesis, and his last Astonishing story was called Exogenesis. But at 4 bucks...well, his run wasn't really that good.

More than anything, I think this is MArvel's response to people complaining about Astonishing X-Men always being out of the loop from the other X-stuff. Personally, I appreciated that fact. I don't read or care about any of the other X-stuff, so Astonishing was the easy choice for me to read. But of course, I guess most fans would rather every comic book be involved in a multitude of crossovers for it to be considered legitimate.

If anything that was Astonishing's strength. The fact that it was independent yet still in continuity was what made it so good. It was a throwback to the old days where every marvel book operated within its own bubble yet was still part of the same universe. Astonishing X-men as far as im concerned has been the best x-men book of the last decade, maybe last two decades.

Marvel's just trying to hard with it. They need to get back to the basics. Grant Morrison and Joss Whedon proved that the traditional X-men formula still works and works well. This over saturation thing is just not working and its hilarious that marvel still doesnt see that.

I'm surprised that instead of simply Astonishing Spider-Man, you have Astonishing Wolverine/Spider-Man. But Aaron writes a good relationship between Spider-Man and Wolverine.

I'm also curious to see if they'll launch Astonishing Iron Man and Astonishing Deadpool soon.

different strokes for different folks. I think AXM is as equally boring now as its always been. It ranks down there as one of my least favorite books at the moment.

Whedon's run was good. I had no interest in continuing to read AXM after that.

I didnt care for his run but it served its purpose. Marvel defiently made that book and team relevant while he was here. That hasnt been the case since Ellis took over. Its passable as its no longer the flagship title and seems rather redundant next to Uncanny, which features most of those same characters in leading roles

Its like if CBS did CSI and CSI NY and they had the same characters

well I mean the same characters not the same roles...or better yet what if Star Trek Next Generation starred Kirk, Spock and McCoy and then DS9 also had Kirk and Company and then Voyager was about Kirk and the gang

If Voyager were about Kirk and the gang, Kirk would've totally banged Seven of Nine. :awesome:

This looks like a mini Ultimate universe.

I wonder if Black Panther knows his wife is out in public dressed like that :o

What about that ridiculous white outfit she wore in War of the Hulks? Not even Coming to America had costumes that absurd. She looks like she's desperate to become one of Jacob Zuma's wives.

I mean, it's like the artists for Marvel have no sense of African fashion. I would have kept that top for the Ultimate version of Storm, and add in some harem pants. But what 616 Storm wears is just blase and so western. With today's computers couldn't the artists bother to try adding patterns for once? Gene Ha was committed enough to draw the patterns for King Peacock in Top 10. Can't anybody at Marvel at Photoshop in some decent African motifs?

Oh great. They think an advanced African nation still doesn't wear slippers.
