Comics Astonishing X-Men #14 preview

I think I might have a theory on why Emma is kissing Logan on the cover(which only works if she'll do it in the issue as well).

Cyc doesn't want her at the moment, right? So she telepathically manipulates Wolverine to kiss her while she pretends she doesn't want to, which would make Scott jealous and pissed at Logan while showing he cares about her by defending her.

That makes sense... Right?

^^^ I hope you're right, because although Wolverine is a womaniser, I'd hate for him to go after Emma, because if so he's being portrayed as a right d*ck. He was in love with Jean, fair enough, now he wants Emma too? nah, I don't believe he hates Scott.

Unless he's doing this because of Jean, continued from the whole "which stage of grieving is this... denial?" ordeal.

I have no idea really, I read Astonishing in trade form so am not uptodate on what happened last issue.

That's what I thought at first, but nope. The kiss does happen, it's just not we originally thought it would be. Personally, it totally took me off guard. Joss really takes Cyclops apart in this issue, it's a bit heartbreaking.

Spoilers!!

Man somebody tell me how he got control of his powers!!

Apparently, since it was originally believed to be a brain damage problem, it turned out to be a psychological problem for Scott. At least, that's how I saw it.

He either got control of his powers, or she made him catatonic....

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHA!
Kitty phased into the tv room while she and Colossus were having sex!
Oh that was hilarious. And the next morning all Logan had to do is look at each of them and figure it out, and said, "Bout time."

And the reason Emma was kissing Logan on the cover?
She made Scott think he was Logan.

We also now know that
the new Hellfire Club is NOT in Emma's mind, because Beast saw Cassandra.

Oh, and apparently
Emma lobotomized Scott.

That's funny because i was thinking the same damn thing. "BOUT FREAKING TIME"

The last spoiler... she did it in the issue or did she do it before? Damn, I gotta wait like two weeks to get it!!! Not fair!!! :'(

I love Joss. We get this amazing story where Scott is psychologically pulled apart, intercut with Kitty & Peter doing the wild thing. I wonder what he did to her to make her fall through the floor like that.

It's especially funny that they had sex in this issue, since they barely had the chance to kiss in the last issue. Kitty knocks on his door, they kiss one another and give this romantic "oh my god, it must be LOOOVVVVEEEE!!!" smile... then they're bumping uglies 5 minutes later. Apparently, the time for starry-eyed romance has passed.

Also, I'm not too sure what Emma just did to Scott. Did she just lobotomize him, or did he have that glazed look in his eyes because he was still in the recesses of his own subconscious mind? Either way, he clearly isn't shooting optic beams anymore.

sidenote: Notice that, even in his own mind, Scott sees himself wearing his glasses. It's like when Rogue's astral form almost killed Remy's astral form in Adjectiveless; some of the control issues have more to do with psychology than mutation/injury.

I hope this is it for Scott/Emma, however I have a sneaking suspicion that at the end of all this, it'll be honky doorey again *rolls eyes*

Great issue. There are very, very few people in the world who can make an entire issue of people talking at each other read well. Whedon is one of them. People who feel that Cyclops is such a boring character, read this now.

I think we're meant to believe that Emma lobotomized him...or that she knew him "letting go" would somehow have this effect on him. I guess we'll know for sure in two months(:()...

I wouldn't be surprised at all if, by the end of this arc, Whedon makes it so that Cyclops is finally able to control his optic blasts. If it's connected to a great story like this, I wouldn't mind at all.

If she just lobotomized him, it's over. If she just helped him gain control of his powers, they'll be closer than ever. Also, fans will be pissed.

"Cyclops/Rogue can never learn to control their powers! Changing their powers will somehow have a major effect on their character that I instinctively know I won't like! Also, I'm going to throw around the word 'iconic'."

A character development is always welcome. I do hate Cyclops as much as I love Ororo, but I gotta admit I would be a little more interested in him if they actually did something with his character. The more interesting thing they did to him in recent years was to make him "die".

LOL!

You know, I was planning that exact post, but okay, you've convinced me to keep an open mind... :o

Cyclops is restricted from Braindamage IIRC... telepathy doesn't fix physical damage.

Unless it's retconned into being psychological.

Great issue, anyway. I'll post more later when I have time.

But what if it's not just brain damage? What if the injury just makes it harder for Scott to control his powers, and the rest is psychological? What if Jean actually fixed it back during the Phoenix Saga, and it was all in his mind up until now?

Maniac, I would probably then write it off as convient, irritating writing, which would only make me more glad I bryne-stole the issue.

I doubt it.

I bet this is all part of Emmas plan.

I bet that also, but I'm hoping I'm wrong. I think thats a dumb idea. It doesnt get much more Mary Sue than "Me being a giant ***** is actually good for everyone else."

Words cannot express how much I geekasmed over this issue. Joss is absolutely the best character writer to ever hit the X-men post Claremont/Dark Phoenix Saga.

As for the actual events. Very interesting revelations that weren't really revolutionary. Xavier is *still* and assuming Emma was telling the truth, a complete ****. Making Cyclops lead out of pity. It's zany, and yet... fits perfectly.

The Hellfire Club is very much real. And Beast is very much screwed.

Did anyone notice the look Brandt gave when she found out who the destroyer of the Breakworld was? It's almost like she knew exactly who it was and that pissed her the hell off. As opposed to shock, horror, etc...

And then there's Emma and Scott... I truly believe she's good. I know it sounds whacked and all but in all sincerity I think she is doing what needs to be done to get him in control of his powers. She knows how obsessive he is with Jean and she knows, moreso than anyone, the inner workings of him. She needed to break him down for his own good.
