Before this arc, I was kinda iffy on Joss' X Men run. I LOVED the characterisation, I thought the first arc was fairly solid and I didn't really like Danger, but the characterisations were spot on and kept me reading even when a lot of the bigger stuff just didn't work.

Finally got my hands on the third tpb- and I thought it was great. I was disappointed that Danger come back, as I just think that character is lame, and Ord isn't too great either- but the stuff with Emma/Cassandra was very rewarding, especially if you have read Grant Morrison's run.

It really had the right mix of danger and characters- Wolverine's breakdown was HILLARIOUS, and the cover to 18 was the single funniest cover I have ever seen. I loved it. Beast was scary as hell unleashed- I am so glad they kept the cat look, it distinguishes him to me so much. I wasn't a fan of Hank's before the cat look, but I am a big fan now. I loved him re-appearing at the end with spectacles and suit.

I am not a cyclops fan, but watching emma break him down, a woman he loved (even though it wasnt her) made me feel truly sorry for him.

Whedon has nailed these characters like none before, broken them down and built them up again, and created imo a near perfect x men arc. Just wow...the humour, action and suspense were all top notch. I'd love to see this as maybe a fourth x men movie.

without spoilers, can someone tell me if the unstoppable arc is turning out as good? And does anyone know when that hits trade? any other thoughts on this arc?

"Unstoppable" has been quite good. Lots of action, lots more interesting characterization, a pretty good plot that's finally following through on Colossus' prophesied destruction of the Breakworld, and the great dialog Whedon has become known for. It's even making me kind of like Danger, and I'm one of those people who absolutely hated the "Danger" arc.

My two problems with the arc are as follows: First, Ord looks cool, but he breaks down to a pretty trite, boring villain. His people as a whole are similarly trite and boring. Still, they serve their purpose acting as a credible threat and the major antagonists of the arc. Second, "Unstoppable" is kind of a high-intensity arc, with lots of action happening in each issue, but the intensity has been hindered a lot by the lateness of each issue. I forgot what was going on in the time it took the last two or three issues to come out, and it took me a couple pages to get everything settled in my brain again. But if you're reading it in trade form, you shouldn't have that problem.

We'll havta wait a while for the trade cuz we're right in the middle of the arc, but so far its intriguing. This story's supposed to go out with a bang, so we'll see, part 3 of 6 comes out next week i think.

Yeah that's why I tend to collect stuff in trades...I used to do the each issue thing and still do with some titles (buffy, army of darkness vs marvel zombies) but I much prefer having it all in trade.

BTW did anyone notice in Torn, just before he's given the ball, hank is actually licking his own crotch :P I hope for his sake he can't remember it...

Pshh, if I were that flexible, you know...

Never mind. I'll just be over here.
