Cruise could do very well in the role, but I think he could potentially be divisive since many people have difficulty separating his off-screen persona from the characters he plays. I think McAvoy would be less controversial, but I guess the question is whether or not Del Toro would settle for someone other than Cruise.

His fee could be a budget issue too. I don't know how much he would cost, and I do want GDT to make the movie that he wants to make...but it's hard to justify playing Tom Cruise much at this point. I don't know of any actor besides Will Smith or maybe Johnny Depp that actually makes a big difference box office wise nowadays.

Cruise has taken salary cuts in the past. And he also will get a pretty low salary for MI-4 however he still has a solid back-end deal for MI-4 which should be good if the movie is profitable.
He could do the same thing here. Lower his salary and then get some good gross points.

Look at Indy 4. Paramount asked George Lucas , Spielberg and Ford to lower their salaries and offered them a percentage of the gross after the studio made back their 180 million budget. The higher the gross of the movie , the higher the percentage.

If GDT wants Cruise despite the cost, them let him have it. It's what he wants. He must really have alot of faith in him to want him in this role at this point.

Agreed, actually. I finished reading At The Mountains of Madness for the first time in a while so as to compare and contrast with the current script(which I haven't gotten around to doing yet), and I feel that there's improvement to be added on. I have a book called Lurker In The Lobby, a book about Lovecraft films and Lovecraftian films, and it has a huge interview section, including a biggie with Del Toro and he even says as much: not alot happens to sustain a feature length. I have to read the script again and just see what he's doing.

I actually much prefer The Dunwich Horror...which really needs to get a big budget do-over. That 70's film is such a cheesy dud.

I think his writing on the Shoggoths makes me believe they'll become some of the most famous movie monsters of all time once he makes the film. They're both terrifying and entertaining. I think he's done a fantastic job of adapting the story and making it into a good concept for a feature-length film.

I think Hoffman would be great as well. I could even see Gary Oldman. I do not want Tom Cruise.

I of course hope Doug Jones is called upon bringing some of the creatures to life which I am sure he will

Greater minds than mine are at work on this film, whoever they get is fine with me. I have no problem with Cruise either.

Peter's height doesn't mean **** to me. It's about him as a person. It's a bonus, and Maguire's height is accurate to Peter's height in the comics, but his height wasn't because I loved his performance. Same with Wolverine. That doesn't define the character for me. There are more important things.

And at the end of the day, regardless of height, Spider-Man and Wolverine would be reduced to drooling, shambling mounds of flesh and muscle when faced against Cthulhu.

Moving along and staying on topic, I'm with dude love. Get MacAvoy to play Danforth and Cruise to play Dyer. Sounds good to me.
