At the Mountains of Madness - Guillermo Del Toro's Next Project! - Part 1

Well people would be free to not watch the film if Lovecraft's racism would tarnish their enjoyment of his fictitious work.

Please for the love of God let this be a hint that the project has been revived.

When GDT last talked about it, he said he wanted to do a complete rewrite of the script and make the movie smaller. So he might not even need that much.

Come on, Guillermo. You can't drop this **** completely out of the blue and not have it be your next movie.

It's not nice to tease us like that. :csad:

Cancelled Movie Report has a great 2-part audio report & script recreation for anyone interested. Check it out Spotify or whenever you get your podcast.

Lots of great interview clips from GDT.

If GDT gets another opportunity to make this movie, I do hope he circles back to the shoggoth design. Don't get me wrong, the design in the CG test is terrifying in its own right. But it is more evocative of Carpenter's Thing than it is the creature from Lovecraft's novella.

I always envisioned the shoggoth as something akin to "The Nightmare" in Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland.

I mean really, swap the red glow with green and that's a Lovecraft shoggoth.

ah that Little Nemo adaptation is great…the Netflix one looks awful

Guillermo del Toro Interview: ‘Pinocchio’ Took Decades to Pull Off | IndieWire

The filmmaker revealed to IndieWire that he recently spoke with VFX veteran Phil Tippett about translating his original pitch for “Madness” into a stop-motion production along the lines of his latest achievement. “I said it would be ideal to do ‘Mountains of Madness’ as stop-motion,” he said. “You watch the animation in a more rapturous way than live action. It’s almost a hypnotic act, and the relationship to the story becomes more intimate in that way.”

I'd prefer live action, but I would see it in whatever incarnation GDT wanted.

I suppose this shouldn't surprise me. GDT was not shy about his love for Mad God.

Yeah i also like live action more.
His hellboy films are still the best films he made in my opinion.

Also he would be perfect for making a Antman, Dr. Strange or Thor film.
