Yeah, I just got an infraction. Lol. I figured there's no nudity so itd be cool. Guess not.

Anyway just search DyE Fantasy on youtube to see the music video.

You know, I've never really liked Lovecraft's "At the Mountains of Madness". In my opinion it was one of the weaker stories he wrote, and I found it to be long and boring. Sure there are some good things in it. But I never felt the tension and horror from it that I got from some of his other works. Again, just my opinion.

I agree with you.

One, just as all the horror is about to start, the narrator mentions everyone who survived getting back to the boat. That's like Alien going from the chestburster scene and cutting to the inquisition scene in Aliens.

Second, the info dump on the old ones really took me out of the story.

HP Lovecraft is one of the most uncinematic writers out there. But Del Toro did a wonderful job at adapting it, so we're safe on that front. Hopefully a latter draft bears less resemblance with The Thing. This needs to be made.

At The Mountains of Madness is one of my favorite stories by Lovecraft, I hope one day that it'll make it to the big screen.

It's not so much that AtMoM was uncinematic, as it wasn't as awesome as his other work. For the record, I consider Call of Cthulhu and Dunwich Horror, among others incredibly cinematic.

If ATMOM ever gets made, I hope it opens the doorway for a few more films based on Lovecraft stories.

I agree. But most of his stories are uncinematic. His writing is just... he doesn't do climax, not in a conventional way. Maybe that's why I worship the man.

Off topic entirely, but I've been a huge Savage Sword of Conan fan for years. I've just recently (within the last year or so) gotten into Lovecraft, but thought it was cool the Savage Sword referenced may of the demons and creatures from Lovecraft's works. Dagon and Cthulhu are the ones I immediately remember. Just kinda fitting I guess since Lovecraft and Howard were buds. And now to get back on topic more or less, Dunwich Horror would be pretty cool to see on screen.

Yeah, Lovecraft often bullied his friends into putting his creatures in their works.:oldrazz:

I can't imagine Robert E Howard being bullied by anyone............who wasn't his mother.

THR:
What the Legendary-NBCUniversal Partnership Means for Both Sides (Analysis)
Tatiana Siegel said:
Under the new deal, according to sources, Legendary has the right to select — or "cherry-pick," as insiders are calling it — which Universal films the company will co-finance, and it has the leverage to opt in at varying percentages, depending on the project. Legendary will be required to meet a minimum overall obligation, as was the case with its Warner Bros. deal. But another source, familiar with the deal said that a pre-agreed selection process allows Legendary the option to finance only certain Universal films and not the entire slate.

That shouldn’t be a problem, though. Given Legendary's deep pockets and its recent success co-backing Warners films like The Dark Knight Rises and Man of Steel, Universal likely will change the types of films it puts into production as well as increase its overall output. The Legendary deal gives Universal its first major financing partner since its slate financing deal with Relativity ended in 2011.

At Warners' premiere for del Toro’s Pacific Rim on Tuesday night, speculation swirled about another proposed del Toro film, At the Mountains of Madness, an expensive Cruise vehicle that Universal pulled the plug on in 2011 after the budget ballooned. Cruise’s presence at the premiere is sure to stoke talk that the movie could now be revived as a Legendary/Universal project -- though a source said Cruise attended the premiere as a guest of Warners rather than Legendary.

Del Toro, who was unaware that Universal and Legendary were on the verge of closing a deal even as the premiere was about to take place, said: “Thomas is a big fan of the screenplay and the project. So it bodes well for that."

He added: “I’m a great fan of Legendary. I think Legendary has a strong genre instinct. And they are very aware of the zeitgeist of the culture, so I think it’s a great fit with any studio.”

A number of Universal and Legendary insiders, who were on hand, offered a vague response. Said one, while arching eyebrows, “We shall see, we shall see.”

A pricey gamble like At the Mountains of Madness would fly in the face of NBCUniversal’s recent fiscal prudence -- but having a partner in Legendary could now make it feasible.

I've been wanting to make a short film out of Dagon ever since I read it.

if they started filming in 2011 or 2012 we would right now enjoy the bluray.

who cares that Pacific Rim bombed. :oldrazz:

hollywood :argh:

That's so wrong.

A movie with potential that was instantly squandered.

Damn you Hollywood. You give us hundreds of American Pie movies and Iron Man 3, but no At the Mountains of Madness? I sincerely hope that Hollywood receives the most exquisite torture possible. May Cthulhu rise from his sunken city and exact an unfathomable vengeance. Ia! Ia!

We have geek/nerd favorite director GDT, who's PERFECT for this kind of project. You have James Cameron supporting it, or was it Spielberg, I forget? You have Tom Cruise potentially starring, and the studio doesn't want to greenlight it because its rated R, ugh. At least we got Pacific Rim out of this, I quite liked that.

Never forget: Universal chose to make RIPD instead.
both RIPD and ATMoM would bomb. with the AtMoM movie everyone would bow down to Universal. with RIPD they make fun of everyone.i get what they didnt make the movie. but it hurts.........so much :(

Honestly, it's only a matter of time before Cthulhu gets cinematic treatment, in a big way. Not only is he one of the great literary concepts/figures with amazing potential, but he's in the public domain. I predict in five years something will happen with this character, and once one movie is big/popular, studios will all be cashing in, just like they're cashing in on vampires and zombies.

Plus, we're seeing Pacific Rim, Godzilla, Pirates of the Caribbean, all these movies that are centimeters away from giving us that character. And another nice thing is that you can make a flat-out Horror movie, a flat-out Sci-Fi movie, or even a Mystery/Drama in the style of The Mothman Prophecies.

Maybe wishful thinking / fanboy delusion... but I still hope.

At some point, everything has its trend in Hollywood. Just like Avatar spawned all these 3D movies and Sci-Fi movies, or Twilight caused all these teeny-novel adaptations, we've got an endless supply of superhero films, etc. These things come in waves/cycles, and I'm always patiently waiting for what's next on the assembly line.

It was Cameron.

Him and del Toro have been close personnel friends for a very long time. They met each other around the time T2 was released. When del Toro actually moved to the states and was a broke, up-and-coming filmmaker, he was living in Cameron's guest house.

They have a long history together.
