I read the script, and Jesus, I couldn't find anything wrong with it. I mean nothing could really be improved upon.

And for people who want to know:

The Cthulhu does appear in the script. But very briefly. And I dont think he's seen completely either. Just glimpses of him. It's basically a grand scale version of The Thing. I can't wait to see what everything will look like.

This could very well be Del Toro's best film yet.

Wait, you have the script for this? Mind PMing it to me, please?:woot:

Supposedly, Del Toro put a few Elder things in Hellboy 2. So in Del Toro's films, The Cthulhu and Hellboy mythos share the same universe....sweet :word:

Obviously, hes been a huge fan of the books for a while

Yeah I mentioned that a few pages back. Thanks for digging up the picture

Man, I could easily see Ron Perlman playing Larson.

I just don't know who the hell else to cast. I hope he goes for lesser known actors.

Dude, I need that script! I loved the short story as a kid, this ****ing! better get made.

I need to get my hands on the short story. I appreciate the link but reading all that online would bother my eyes. I'd like to feel the pages. I started reading some and there is alot of detail. Hopefully it doesn't get to the extent where it becomes tedious.

I don't like reading lit on a screen either. You should be able to find it at any good bookstore though. This is the one I have.

I've not read the book, but I'm hoping for a blue collar, working stiff cast like Alien and The Thing.

^It's a group of academics, professors and a student.

Huh. The man just keeps getting new projects.

At the Mountains of Madness: The Definitive Edition
"This exclusive new edition, presents Lovecraft’s masterpiece in fully restored form"

I'm kind of interested now how restored that edition is (or what is restored in that edition), as I myself have the Necronomicon version, which is the same old version published everywhere.

Thanks for the links guys. Once I start my job I need to get everything prioritized first and then I can buy something. I don't think I've bought anything for myself since last July.

I first read Lovecraft from the local public library. I still don't own a copy of At the Mountains of Madness. The only books I have are two of the three Penguin Classics,
his complete poetry in The Ancient Track, and his essay Supernatural Horror in Fiction.

I also have a nifty little book compiled by Joshi, it's a catalog of the books Lovecraft owned.

The restoration is the text. No new, reinserted page or anything. Just the text. And it isn't really restored for that edition. Chances are, if you have a Lovecraft book and the texts were edited by S.T. Joshi, it's the same one.

Definitely a copy to have though, as China Mieville's intro is really neat. And it beats having to give someone a huge tome just to read the book.

So I wonder how Del Toro is going to put his stamp on this. In terms of style and what the whole film will look like. Reading the script, it's very easy to imagine where the camera would go and how it would look. But the beauty of Del Toro is that he could turn that to smoething different yet so obvious.

what I love about GDT is his love for practicle effects, he should come up with some crazy stuff

I can't wait to see what the creatures look like.

From Collider:
James Cameron Talks 9 Minutes of AVATAR Re-Release Footage, Shooting the Sequels Back to Back, 3D Conversions, and AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS
The teaming of Cameron and del Toro may be even more serendipitous than we first realized. Cameron allegedly brought up Madness a couple weeks ago, asking if del Toro was still interested in the project. When it was clear the Mexican filmmaker was chomping at the bit to get it made, Cameron said “Let’s do it.” The pair took it to Universal, and now the project is on the fast track, set to shoot in native 3D in summer 2011.

2012 release. That's great.

Thank God for James Cameron.

Glad to see there is an upside to Cameron's star status.
