How crowded was your showing and how was the atmosphere?

I went to a midnight showing and I plan to go multiple times over the weekend. I'm extremely interested if anyone experienced a turn out like I did at midnight. I went to what I believe is the largest cinema in the Midwest (AMC 30-Michigan) and the atmosphere was at carnival levels. It was like a sporting event with chants and cheering leading up to the film. The IMAX presentation was obviously sold out (couldn't pop in to there) but so were the THREE other main auditoriums. They were opening up multiple side theatres for the overflow. I walked around and counted FIVE extra, smaller theatres. All of which were packed with people! That's eight total theatres. I estimate around three thousand people or more, and on a "school night" no less. It was amazing. If this is any indication, records may indeed fall.

(side note- The Harry Potter and FF2 trailers were VERY well received)

So I went to see it at the midnight show at the IMAX theater in Reading, MA and someone called in a bomb threat...

The crouds reaction was undescribable... Silent/blind rage filled the room. I just hope no one else here had to go through that either...

Yea i just got back from my midnight showing. I went to local imax theater it was sold out and. Their was alot of laughs and cheers throughout the movie. I was surprise it did not end like the first two did but the movie was really good i will probably see it a second time during the weekend.

It was pretty crowded where I was at. There were a lot of cheers and laughter. When it ended, I didn't really hear anyone clap. Two guys behind were relieved that it was over.

Went to an IMAX theater in MI and it was sold out. The audience laughed a lot and seemed to be really into the movie. The second everyone saw Bruce the whole theater burst into laughter so it definetly seemed that most of the crowd was really familar with the other movies.

We had a packed theater, for the most part leading up it was positive some teenagers came wearing spandex and had their chest painted like spidey and venom. On yelled something like "Stop venom" and they ran around the pretending to web and ppl cheered.

Honestly for myself I thought lots of the movie was awesome special effects and everything but getting to the end it felt like there was to much and got that sick feeling I had with most of Superman Returns. I guess it was approaching the climax with Venom and Sandman joining forces. I didnt think the story was as well done as the first two they were simpler and worked better imo. I will probably go see it again for the most part it was great just to much stuff at the end.

Oh and someone said they made Spidey emo.... I think it was hit or miss my bro loved it same with the guy beside me, though his buddy didnt like it. One less villian may have helped it out I will probably apprciate it more after I see it again there was a lot of good in it as well.

Audience loved it. There were some claps at the end, and alot of claps and laughter during Bruce Campbell's cameo. And some during Stan Lee's.

Of course another crowd fave was when someone screamed "****E!" during the MJ-Harry kiss.

The theater was packed, but I'll have to see this movie again because the audience ruined the experience for me. I don't mind when the audience is somewhat rowdy, but when it carries over into the movie, to the extent that it ruins the scenes because people are calling the characters names and laughing everytime any character shows any signs of crying, it's pretty much a lost cause.

My audience was good during the intentionally comedic moments but they sucked during the rest of the movie.

Not sure this is the right thread, but . . .

My experience was pretty interesting. I've had tickets for this movie since midnight of the night they went on sale - I had the three exact middle tickets (the theater I went to has reserved seating) for the 12:01 IMAX through MovieTickets.com. I've been really excited for quite some time, and I'm even taking off school tomorrow and such so I can play the Spider-Man 3 video game and perhaps see it again.

Anyway, my mom drove me and two of my friends (we all thought we'd be too tired to drive) and when we get to the theater (around 9:30) I go to the little station where you input your credit card to get tickets. I confirmed I had tickets earlier today and made sure we were taking the right credit card, but when I put it in, it said there were no reservations available.

So I go to the box office and explain my situation. The lady just thinks we are making it up and says it's not their problem, it's related to MovieTickets.com. When we told her we wanted to see her manager, she was totally rude and said there was nothing they could do. Luckily, a manager was walking by and we sort of told him our situation. While I was freaking out because we drove about forty-five minutes to get to this theater (it's the closest IMAX around) , he went back to talk to the theater manager.

This is where it gets really weird. Apparently, they had to redo one of their servers and in doing so, reset the seating reservations for the movie. At the time, the -only- tickets that had been purchased had been the three I bought, so they were off the credit card. Turns out, they had no way of notifying me but they had saved the three tickets *AND* had sent out a memo explaining the situation to all employees in case we were to come to them with our problem, with the last four digits of the credit card number being only our means of reservation.

So we got our tickets (and she let us read this huge memo that had been written about the situation) and, for our troubles, she gave us a bunch of free Spider-Man 3 swag. For example, we got some little Spider-Man 3 wristbands with flashlights in them that have a web and the movie's title when you light them up.

So then we go into the theater, but my mom is staying in the lobby since she doesn't have a ticket (and just took a book to read anyway to stay awake). Well, they closed the lobby after all of the showing started to seat, so my mom actually got to take the seat of one of the people who didn't show (there were only two) in the theater for free.

Once everything was settled, it was pretty nice. The crowd laughed *a lot*, although sometimes at inappropriate parts which sort of affected the moment at times. They were really enthusiastic nonetheless, and so despite the chaos I had a great time.

EDIT: Just read some of the responses, and what StorminNorman posted was exactly what happened in my theater, including the shouts during the MJ/Harry kiss and people laughing when they were through. In case anyone else went, I was at Springdale 18: Cinema de Lux for my viewing.

4 screens at the place I went to, I think 2 or 3 were sold out, good reaction from the crowd up until the battle royal, after that people went silent and only a few claps at the end, most of the reaction was the disapointment of venom

Where you at the MJR in Chesterfield??? If not they did that at the theatre I was in too...lol

Toronto Ontario...

The reaction was pretty mixed. People were laughing at Tobey's facial expressions during the DRAMATIC scenes....

The film was unintentionally funny at the wrong points.

I think everyone loved the action but not so much the story...or multiple stories.

The audience at my midnight showing was great. The atmosphere was filled with laughs and cheers as we sat mesmerized by the wonderful theatrical feature we were experencing.

We laughed when Peter struted his stuff down the streets of the New York, we cried when Sandman told Spiderman of his blight. We screamed loudly when Venom entered frame.

We mourned when Harry become more than his father, and sacrificed his life for his friends. The bedazzlement of the fight scenes, the quirky dialogue from Eddie Brock Jr. It was all just wonderful, I felt like a kid again as I sat there big eyed with a pitter patter in my heart.

This movie brought out the best of what Spiderman Trilogy had to offer, one of the most thrilling comic movies this year.

What a great time it is to be able to see characters like Venom on the big screen, even though his part was short lived, this is just beyond my imagination that I could be alive to experience this.

It was packed. My friend dressed up as Spider-Man before hand, and not like a lame halloween costume, the real deal, one of those hundreds of dollars - DIY suits. Yeah, everyone laughed, a lot where there shouldn't have been laughing. Especially Emo Spidey. That was lame.

Wow. That's all I can say... and not in a good way. First, the theatre I was at had 6 (yes, 6) sold out screenings for the movie. The theatre I was in was very loud and excited before the trailers and all else started, and there were even 3 people decked in a full spidey suit. Once the movie started, it was pure silence. It was shaping up to be a good night. But then things got a little messy....

I was right there laughing with everyone else when Peter was strutting/dancing down the street, but that scene in the jazz club... what was Raimi thinking? Peter is an expert piano player, eh? Dancing on tables and swinging from chandeliers? Ouch. The laughs were no longer with the movie, they were at the movie. The introduction of Venom seemed to help the crowd gain focus, but not for long. The laughs came back in full force during the "climactic" final battle scene. When Harry came to the aid of Peter and they started fighting, about 5 people actually got up and left. The people that were left during the end funeral scene? Laughing. The credits rolled, and not one person clapped. I really couldn't believe it. The long walk from the theatre to the exit and then to the car was filled with nothing but negativity from all around.

I thought this would be an epic movie. I was horribly wrong. I really hope you people out there had a better experience than I had.

Did we go to the same theater? Because that is what EXACTLY happened at my theater, "****E!" part included! Weird.
