Audience Reaction/Theatre Reports

Well, it was packed and people were calling MJ a skank when she kissed Harry (no joke, almost the entire crowd was insulting her). They also all "OOHHHHHED" when Peter hit MJ.

However, I got stuck beside the idiots who come to the movies specifically to talk. Yes, they come to a packed movie theater and try and hold a conversation. Oh, also they thought it was HILARIOUS when the butler told Harry about how he loved his dad, because if you love anyone in anyway you must be gay. They also yelled at "GAY" when Harry said Peter was his best friend and all that jazz.

I had a great audience that helped add to the experience to the midnight showing I went to. People cheered and laughed when the usher came to announce that the movie was going to start. None of the people at the showing went to were dressed like Spider-Man, but quite a few were wearing Spider-Man shirts.

The crowd I went to laughed and cheered in the right places -- particularly the emo Peter dance moves, the Jazz Club scene (well, I thought it was meant to be both hilarious and sobering) and the JJ Jameson scenes. A couple of people gasped when Peter hit MJ and/or when MJ kissed Harry.

But when the credits rolled, people applauded -- the majority of the people enjoyed it, but some of them didn't. But when me and my friends walked out to the lobby (there were 3 additional auditoriums in my theater that had the midnight showing as well) where people were discussing their thoughts on the movie, some *****ebag yelled out "SUCKED!" for everyone else to hear.

I was livid and for a moment, I wanted to find the guy and punch his lights out. But otherwise the audience experience I had was great.

Same here dude...

I am surprised at all of these negative crowd reactions, because I have yet to experience any of that.

- The audience really seemed to love the whole dark Peter, especially the midnight. It's kind of like a power trip that comes tumbling down when MJ is knocked to the ground- you can litterally hear the audience being knocked out of the power trip.... "oh my god" "wow" "oh ****, did he just-"... the audience reacted the exact way Peter did. And to put it frankly, I really thinkg that that if Raimi didn't put those fun rather than angry-all-the-time symbiote scenes in- no matter how corny they may be- that one moment would not have gotten that response. Yeah, Peter is sadistic- but he also has fun and the audience has fun with him... but, when he knocks MJ to the ground- you know that fun is over and you want him to get rid of that suit.

- The Harry and MJ scene got hushed reactions and, "did they just", "wow" as well...

- No laughing in any inappropriate places... makes me wonder how many crazy whack jobs went to see the film in other places- because, some of the responses I've heard are really bizarre and I have yet to come across any of those types of responses.

There were cheers for the POTC and FF2 trailers and boos for the "Surf's Up" and "Bourne Ultimatum" trailers. At the end of the Bourne trailer a couple of guys in the back yelled "MATT DAMON!", Team America style.

Everyone loved the Bruce Campbell and Stan Lee cameos. Everyone shouted "No!" and "****e!" when MJ kissed Harry.

Also for some reason, a lot of people laughed when Peter hit MJ.

There were a couple of gasps when Peter knocked MJ back.

From my full review (here):

Crowd: Sold out (I know, a shocker); LOTS of kids and teens

Trailers: Harry Potter (good reaction), Shrek the Third (fantastic reactions), Pirates 3 (mild reactions, but there was terrible sound during that one), Bourne 3 (no real reactions), some loopy musical flick with The Beatles music (nobody cared)

Crowd Reactions: Quiet applause at the end. Big laughs during the JJ scenes, big laughs for Peter strutting, SILENCE during the infamous dance scene. HUGE gasp when Peter struck MJ (a 'wow' moment for me). A tad bit noisy with all of the kids, so it was a decent experience at best. The sound system in the theatre was kinda lame.

Yeah, that 'wow' moment... as said earlier definitely agree and it's rare that you can feel that kind of impact sent through the theater like a shock wave. And I see two to three movies a week. Part of the reason I think Raimi went with "fun" but bad Peter was to get the audience on his side, a power trip- if you will- that comes tumbling down.

If you just had sadistic Peter, I can guarantee- to everyone here- that that "wow" scene would have had no impact at all... because, it would be "oh, he was scary and evil all along- no big change here..." But, due to that fun power trip- that moment is a big wake up call to everyone in the theater.

My favorite reaction yet, in the film experience, because as I said- its like an invisible force field that hits every audience member across the face. It's really incredible.

The midnight showing was sold out. They had 5 screens playing it at midnight - all sold out. LOTS of cheer, lots of anticipation, PLENTY of laughter, plenty of "OH NO!!" and "did he get the ring??". It was great. The audience ate it up. Saw it again tonight and more of the same, just more applause.

People seemed to LOVE when Peter trashed Harry with the bomb.

I went during noon while everyone was either at school or at work, plus I was in Dearborn which is basically Detroit, and unfortunately people in Detroit aren't exactly comic book fans. Liking comics around here will get you ostricized (sic). So the audience was small. I'd say there were about 50 people in a room with about a maximum possible audience of 400. That's how I like it. Small, quiet audience (despite the fact that there were STILL annoying little kids and a couple comic knowitalls ruining the movie).

I will say that despite my disappointment with the film, the audience I was with really seemed to enjoy it, and there was an abundance of applause as the credits rolled.

Bruce Campbell's cameo as the French restaurant host, the dance scenes with Emo Peter and the jazz club scene got the biggest reactions from the crowd, along with a collective gasp when MJ was struck by Peter.

What was really horrible, however, was that a bunch of people were clapping after MJ was slapped. I thought that was....distasteful.

amc mississauga, ONt, canada

People were laughing when they wernt supposed to
one guy scream the F word wen MJ kissed harry and everyone laugfhed at him
people were laughing and moaning when pete looks in the mirror and combs over his hair to state his whatever evilness

Pearl, MS 9:00

The crowd didn't laugh at the unintentional scenes. I thought this was a good sign compared to what I read in reviews. But at the end, some people clapped but stopped then other people clapped then stopped like they thought the whole theater was going to. Bizarre.

My Spider-man showing was ugh!
Like I went to this ghetto place. So there were lots of people who clapped at dumb things, But no one clapped with those people. Then this really big girl sat in front of me so I had to move. Then there was a fanatic who was screaming when Stanley came on the screen. Then when "emo" peter came on. Some mexicans were like "Peter I need some hair I shave it off, I look like a kiwi!" I'm like why are you stereotyping yourself like that. Ugh i hate when people say emo and rockers. Uhm okay anyways, when Flint came on lots of people were like "Look it's spider-man" That is not no Spider-man thats sandman. When Harry hit his head they were like " Not another Special Ed kid" I'm like shut the frak up! That is cold! So when he smiled they were like it's starting. Then when gwen was taking a picture, some people were like yup that girl from that porn site. Also when there were all those dances lots of people were like "this is why you aint hot" . It was like X-Men 3 all over again. But I loved the movie!!!! Just hated the crowd.

I loved the Emo Spidey struttin around New York that was great! It made me cringe a bit when he was in the jazz club and he said that really gay line when he had the microphone.

Just got back...wow. I really can't say just how much the crowd was mixed on this.

Then again, I hadn't read spoilers......I was right there with them. (and I liked the first 2 films) The whole damn thing was just....off. It's like Raimi purposely over-indulged in every sense of the word. To be honest, fight sequences aside, this felt like another director was at the helm.

To rephrase, the crowd really liked the action parts, were just not into the messy storyline(s).

80% of my packed theatre booed when it was done. never seen that before, not even for movies like The Village

Wow, 80%, why not the whole theater. :whatever:

Got to the theater at 8:30 hoping to get tickets for the 9:30 show...

Got there and ALL THE SHOWS up to 10:20 were sold out...apparentely all of the shows of the day leading up to 10:20 were sold out, so my cousin, her boyfriend and I got tickets for the 10:50 showing. Lined up for seats at about 9:30 and it was already packed.

Trailers:
-The Bourne Supremecy (mild response)
-Some music/painter guy (none)
-Rescue Dawn (none)
-Rush Hour 3 (HUGE repsonse...everyone cheered and applauded at the beginning and end of it--I was surprised)

Reaction:
-Biggest Reaction was when Emo Peter threw the pumpkin bomb back at Harry AND when Harry was impaled with the glider.
-Another big one was when Emo Peter pushed MJ in the club.
-Gasps when Spidey kissed Gwen.
-ALOT of gasps and discussion when MJ kissed Harry...and I mean discussion--EVERYONE was talking.
-"Ooh..." when Harry revealed that he was the 'other guy'
-A lot of jumping whenever Venom would do something.
-Laughter at the strutting scenes and JJJ scenes
-Light applause at the end.

Overall, I was happy with the crowd I had, they were really into the movie... WITH the exception of 3 immature jackasses who laughed at the most inappropriate times i.e. the breakup scene on the bridge...they kept laughing, it was annoying.

well the people in the theater I went to were calm. Laughed during the funny scenes...laughed during the corny scenes....as I did...I felt that nobody (including me) was in the movie after the end of the battle royale when Sandman starts to explain Uncle Ben's death and everybody starts crying (in the movie). As some of the friends I went with said "one time crying, ok...two times...it still passes but the end of the movie was just too much", I have to say I agree with them.

I can't help but laugh at how for those who hated the movie, the audience hated it also, and for those who loved the movie, the audience loved it also.

I'll find out for myself later.

Packed.
As.
Hell.

Seriously, I didn't expect that:woot: .
Was surprised:oldrazz:

Saw this last night the cinema was packed, people laughed at most scenes but as the film went on you could feel the crowd getting restless and dissapionted, this then lead to something I have never seen in an English cinema..............people started leaving in droves during the Harry's 'hold me ma' death scene

I sort of find it pathetic to see this kind of trend, because (as you were implying) it seems to indicate that a lot of the posters on here will gladly lie through their teeth in order to make it seem like they have the most valid position on the movie.

The theater was packed. As for the reaction, I'm not sure how positive it was in my theatre. Many people laughed at Tobey's crying and I heard a few asshats behind me keep calling Harry and Peter gay...but then there was a thunderous applause at the end...

All the jokes and intended laughs landed, but the rest of the time, it was pretty non-existant. Everyone knew who Stan and Bruce were, which made it exciting, knowing I was watching with fans. At the end, there was a feeling of the air of 'What the heck is going on? That was an ending? That was disappointing'. One guy said loudly, 'Booo'. I said 'I second that'.

just about everybody cheered when Stan Lee and Bruce Cambpell made there cameo's and i thought it was great that even some of the very young kids knew who Stan was, but the best part was when Mary Jane kissed harry the entire theater boo'd and hissed, it was great

people in my theater were laughing hysterically right before peter and harry had the big fight at his house...they were basically laughing at his emo-look...people also laughed a lot when peter and harry were both on the board together...i guess they felt it was too batman and robin-ish...
