I didn't really like Age of Ultron... but when compared to Apocalypse, AOU now seems amazing!

Thanks!

Age of Ultron.

I didn't like what they did with Quicksilver's death or Bruce/Nat, but everything else about that movie was really enjoyable and I something I rewatch frequently.

Apocalypse was a dumpster fire.

Thumbs up. I actually just rewatched this the other day and enjoyed it immensely.

Age of Ultron by a mile. I enjoyed Apocalypse more than some, but it has been the weakest X-Men movie in a while.

Ultron, no contest.

The only X-men film thats worthy to compete in any poll is First Class imo.

AoU was enjoyable but bland and repetitive in some ways.
But compared to Apocalypse.... Sheesh, turns into a masterpiece!
I didn't find much to enjoy in Apocalypse. And I'm pretty easy to please I think.

Both movies get better the more times you watch them. It's a common problem with modern superhero sequels, they are so densely packed with characters, sub-plots and action that you can't pick up everything the first time. There are themes and subtleties you only notice on later viewings.

AoU easily over XmA. laughable to think otherwise

I'm a little late to the party here, but I'll still throw in my two cents. I do think Apocalypse is the superior film just for the fact that it feels more complete. Most of the characters are changed by the events in the story, and I do think it handles the theme of family well. Also, Oscar Isaac's performance of Apocalypse is underrated imo. I personally liked the idea of Apocalypse being a cult leader of sorts, and his arc which culminates in the awesome scene with Phoenix.

On the other hand Age of Ultron is just very middle of the road for me. The action is just ok, and there isn't much of a story there. I'm just surprised that major characters in the film don't have any arcs. Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor don't change at all, or learn anything from the events that've transpired in the film. Ultron never feels like a threat. Any menace that is there is undercut as soon as he starts cracking jokes. I also don't like how out of nowhere he has superpowers. For example he's fighting Cap then he magically lifts up a good chunk of the street to stop Black Widow on her bike. Like where the hell did that come from? The film also lacks a theme to keep the story together. Overall Age of Ultron is entertaining, but it's also a mess

I watched them both recently, and they both get unwarranted criticism. I'll give the clear edge to AoU in this comparison.

True post--I feel the same way, especially for ensemble films.

AoU gets better everytime I watch it, and subsequent phase 3 films I also feel had given it some depth it didn't have at the time. It's only gotten better, and I think it will continue to get better for people.

X-Men: Apocalypse does not. It has a few glorious moments, but then also filled with so much stupid! In this case, the stupid outweighs the good. This makes me sad because I was very excited for that film, only for it to sort of suck. It ridiculous in a bad way for 95% of the film and criminally boring at various points.

When I first watched AoU I liked it, when I first watched XA I found it a letdown. I still feel the same.

I would still vote Apocalypse, but there is no doubting CW, Ragnorak and Black Panther have made AOU a movie I enjoy more now than in 2015.

Age of Ultron threw in too much, but at least it was full-on. Apocalypse just felt half-hearted. It was Fox trying to make a Marvel film, instead of a Bryan Singer X-Men film.

Weird pattern of the X-Men trilogies:

- First movie good.
- Second movie one of the best superhero movies ever.
- Third movie features Angel and Psylocke and is disappointing.

I've never been as high on X1 as others. It's merely okay to me. I have several issues with it.

You have to remember the time it came out though. The landscape for CBMs was very different in 2000.

Not really an excuse, IMO. Superman and Batman 89' are products of their time, but they are still mostly timeless. X1 felt dated even then to me. I was never truly happy with X1 Wolverine, Sabertooth looks silly, Storm and Cyclops have zero character development, and I just found the whole turn the world leaders into mutants thing silly. Even in 2000 I thought it was silly.

It's not the worst CBM ever, but for me, it was only ever merely just okay.

In 2000 though CBMs weren’t highly anticipated and generally thought of as a joke. Superman and Batman’89 didn’t have to things that toxic even when they came out. Due to B&R and others no studio wanted to touch them.

But hey, to each their own.
