Avengers: Doomsday General News & Discussion Thread

I would love if they add the trailer of Doomsday, at the end credits of The Fantastic 4: First Steps, after the "The Fantastic 4 will return" text.

Shades of Captain America First Avenger 2011 and that post-credit Avengers trailer.

I think the biggest problem I have with this movie is that it doesn’t feel “earned”. All the previous Avengers movies had so much buildup across multiple movies. This sorta just feels like it’s been added to the slate with no real foresight.

Having said that, I hope I’m wrong & it’s awesome.

You mean the movie that up until last year it was called Kang Dynasty, had a totally different villain and was supposed to be written and directed by completely different people? What makes you say that? :o

I wonder if we will ever get a REAL leak for what the Kang Dynasty plans were (and not that fan fiction going around the net for months)

Yes. And not just that but there aren't characters leading the charge. Who are we supposed to be following? What is the narrative here?

I think the approach for this would be different compare to how they set up Thanos and those colorful stones. But the Multiverse sub-plots from The Marvels, No Way Home, Multiverse of Madness, Deadpool & Wolverine and First Steps do seem like its heading into a multiverse-all-stars collision, even if Kang was scrapped.

I hope they could pull it off next year and next next year.

I fear that the next two Avengers movies are going to be total nostalgia-fests.

I don’t necessarily think Doomsday will be, but I think Secret Wars will be 30 years of Marvel on the big screen.

I look forward to the credits scene of Secret Wars in which they honor the pre-MCU actors one by one.

Light spoilers for Brave New World and the reformation of the Avengers:

Who do you think Sam is going to recruit for the New Avengers?

My guess / hope, in addition to Sam Wilson / Captain America and Joaquin Torres / Falcon, we see the following:

Bruce Banner / Hulk. After the downfall of Ross and re-emergence of Leader, Banner returns as Hulk (now able to control his transformation with a new gamma gauntlet).

Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel. Now back on Earth, Carol returns to the Avengers.

James Rhodes / War Machine. After Secret Invasion, Rhodey is looking for redemption/purpose.

Scott Lang / Ant-Man. After Quantumnania, Scott can’t shake the feeling another doomsday is coming, and leaps at Sam’s invitation.

Okoye. Now longer a Dora Milaje after Wakanda Forever, Okoye seeks purpose again with the Avengers (with a redesigned/sleeker Midnight Angel armor courtesy of Riri Williams)

Shang-Chi: Invited by Wong, Shang-Chi’s ten rings may hold a secret to the impending incursions foreshadowed by Leader (and confirmed by Wong)

Wong. Now Sorcerer Supreme (and with Strange off in the multiverse), Wong has stayed in contact with Carol and Bruce after Endgame.

That’s our core 9(!) Avengers moving forward: Captain America, Falcon, Dr. Bruce Banner, Captain Marvel, War Machine, Ant-Man, Okoye, Falcon, Shang-Chi, and Wong the Sorcerer Supreme.

Honestly, with so many characters possibly from different realities making an appearance, I don't think it matters. They are just going bond together to defeat the main threat similar to Infinity War and Endgame.

The Heavy Spoilers YouTube Channel claims the new movie(s) are about

An evil team of Avengers (the original cast returning for these alternative Avenger roles) from another universe facing off against the new Avengers.

I'd have no problem with this. :)

Rumor.

It's still kind of wild to me that we're really heading into having an Avengers movie coming out next year. This is going to be a real test for the MCU. Because this is easily the shakiest they've gone into Avengers movies. The one good thing is at least they are going to use two movies to tell this story which gives them a chance of putting something solid together. Obviously there's risks it won't since they did turn hard away from their original Kang plans and went a bit desperate for Doom's casting.

Just tricky all around. My fingers are crossed and hoping for the best here. But will start filming fairly soon and hopefully their plans are rock solid.

But it's the aftermath of Secret Wars that makes me wonder. The note and direction they end that movie on will kind of decide everything going forward.

I mean, I called that concept like....months ago, lol! No scoop needed

As for the concept, meh. I still hate what we are doing with Doctor Doom and see this as a monumental waste of an amazing villain

“It’s all in London, we’re shooting them fairly back-to-back, it’s a lot of work again, we may or may not survive, we’ll see,” Joe Russo told Deadline’s social media manager Natalie Sitek on the red carpet. “But we’re very excited about it. We found a way into the story that we think is gonna be challenging for audiences, it’s challenging for us to execute. And it’s really exciting for us, it gets us out of bed to do it.”
