Iron Man Avi out & Maisel in, he tried to change Iron Man villain!

No... it wouldn't work because having Jeff Bridges playing a Chinese guy would be downright stupid. Ra's Al Ghul was one thing, but there's no getting over an American Mandarin, of course they could come up with something like Stane gets possessed by the "spirit" of Mandarin but that would be completely atrocious.

I may be giving him too much credit since I haven't actually seen any of the film in action, but I doubt Jon would stand for this.

Either A.) He argued his case and DID end up getting the two villains he wants, which directors have to do ALL the time especially in Super Hero movies. Execs always ask thing like "Well does he HAVE to wear a costume" or "Iron MAN? How about we make it an Asian woman instead?" and the director has to fight just to get some of the most basic essential things about the character on screen

Or B.) he worked tirelessly to remove Mandarin from the script and rewrote it just with Iron Monger, and is saving the Mandarin parts for the next film.

Actually, I don't argue with you. I am agreed :) It doesn't make sense to change Mandarin and turn him into Iron Monger.

Great post. I wish Hollywood would listen.

Hollywood? That's the thing, MARVEL is fully in charge of this movie. For the first time, what they collectively say is what's going to happen. It's their first solo film and I'm quite confident that they won't lose sight of the core of their own characters. Flexing on Fox or Sony is one thing but complete control is another. I'm honestly not worried at all.

Not Marvel, Marvel STUDIOS. They are a movie studio and they're going to have to think like one. They're going to do what's best for the film, not necessarily what's best for the comic, otherwise the studio won't be around very long.

That's not to say that that they're necessarily going to be making any huge changes to the characters, I'm just saying don't let the "Marvel" part of the name fool you. They're there to make movies that the most possible amount of people will see.

We don't know what villains he was merging. It doesn't mean the Mandarin is Iron Monger. Maybe they took aspects of Iron Monger and, oh say Titanium Man for example, to make one similar armored villain.

Heck, we don't even know if the merging actual was put into effect.

Just wait and see before judging.

Thats a very good point that most people seem to misunderstand or not fully understand, good call.

Error, Error. Does not compute. Must judge entire movie based on one image if possible! :hyper:

Advanced Dark, whats your take on this? (new guy + 2 villains into one)

IMHO more than one villain per film RARELY works. Don't like the idea... most of the time it's too much.

Vic
:cmad: I think it can work, if you omit telling the origin for every freakin character!! A movie with multiple villains would work if only the interesting characters origins were told and it is a major component of the story. I wish the writers would stop adhering to this tired, hackneyed format and just focus on brilliant story telling. Writing is an art not a tool to sell Burger King toys. [EDIT] But in Ironman's case, no. Its just blatant advertisement ****ring. Im really getting sick of Marvel and their stupid a$$ decisions, and the blind fans who will throw away money towards any peice of crap that shoots out of Marvel's butt!!...

My suggestion guys? If you want to see the Mandarin in a movie . . . watch Pirates of the Carribbean 3 and don't split hairs about names and such ;) .

Let's really think this through. If two characters were going to be combined into one, it would have been during the script development phase, and NOT after casting had taken place and shooting had begun.

In this day and age, casting a white actor in an Asian role would be scandalous and disrespectful. It's just not gonna happen.

yes but this just proves there are two villains cleearly confirmed from the Fat Favreau as the Chinese Mandarin and from the spy pics of Iron Man fighting the silver tinned huge robot that is Iron Monger

why u gotta call the guy fat. He lost a lot of weight!!

I'm not 100% convinced we're not getting 2 villians, there's always alot of deception when dealing with studios and reports, not saying Mandarin will be in the film, but he may not be a huge part of it, letting Obadiah Stane do all the dirty work and pulling the strings, remember Mandarin is the Iron Man's arch nemisis, he doesn't have to get his hands blood stained until the third film, if it goes that far.

There was a casting call for Gene Khan so I expect to see Mandarin for at least a couple of min in the first film.
