Babies starved while parents gamed

People in their 20's are too interested in partying and sex to care about kids. That's what the age is notorious for, and for a good reason in some way- you should enjoy life before taking on responsibilities like this. People SHOULD wait until their 30's, but nowadays we live in a society that finds it perfectly reasonable for a girl's biological clock to go off at 15 and for her to have at least 4 kids that she could care less about. So, in reality, this doesn't really surprise me. Just more people who should have been aborted as fetuses before they further damaged the gene pool.

I agree. The thing is I believe there are few people that can raise a child properly in their 20's. You don't read much about things like this happening to people who are in their 30's, & up.

Sure you do and they also lose it and end up killing all the babies...drowning, straggling...what ever means.

You beat me to it...but yeah....how many times have you heard of a mother's meltdown.....they could be at any age....plus I have heard plenty of stories of mothers (30's +) doing similar stupid things....I remember one story in particular of this single mother leaving her toddler age kids at home alone for a weekend while she went to Las Vegas with her BF.....she was in her late 30's as I recall....the kids survived on crackers and mustard until a neighbor heard the kids crying.....

Agreed. Your 20's should be for getting the truly stupid sh** out of your system. Then move on.

Killing on purpose, & killing out of neglect. To me are 2 different things. There are stories of all ages of parents killing their children, but there are few of parents neglectfully killing their children. That usually ends up being the young folk.

Every time I think about a mother killing her kids...

She comes to mind.

I can’t believe you guys are going to let me get away with that last post… :o

This is true but still you'll find people of all ages neglect their children.

I agree that people should wait. Get all the fun and games out of the way before having little ones. I know when I was in my 20's I just wanted to run free and that includes not settling down with one boyfriend. Freedom!!!! Damnit! :cmad:

I would have said something but your beg for attention thereafter sort of defeated the previous.....no I probably wouldn't have said anything.....:o

Couple accused of neglecting young children to surf Web, play video games
RENO, Nev. - A couple authorities say were so obsessed with the Internet and video games that they left their babies starving and suffering other health problems have pleaded guilty to child neglect.

The children of Michael and Iana Straw, a boy age 22 months and a girl age 11 months, were severely malnourished and near death last month when doctors saw them after social workers took them to a hospital, authorities said. Both children are doing well and gaining weight in foster care, prosecutor Kelli Ann Viloria told the Reno Gazette-Journal.

Michael Straw, 25, and Iana Straw, 23, pleaded guilty Friday to two counts each of child neglect. Each faces a maximum 12-year prison sentence.

It's funny. I'm 17 and everyone tells me I should be out enjoying my long stretch of freedom, but I already feel like settling down and opening up a barbershop. :ninja:

Dude seriously don't settle. Get it out of your system now. Because time will start flying, & you will regret not being stupid earlier in your life.

I thought that worked the other way around.

Yes, & no. If you look back on your younger years, & have nothing to regret. Then you didn't live. Just my opinion.
Agree, well as long as by "stupid" it means overall harmless things. Stupid doesn't mean go rob a bank and kill someone. That's the stuff you DO regret later...trust me

Well, yeah. I am talking about looking back, & wondering how you survived all that stupid.

While I agree that you hear these things more from that age bracket, to make broad statements that *all* or even most 20 somethings are too irresponsible to raise children is, well, quite irresponsible and ignorant on your part.

These stories are rare because MOST parents, 20 something or not, actually care about their kids. So let's not forget that a story like this is an UNcommon thing, eh?

How is it irresponsible to say that the vast majority or- heck- the age group is more enjoyment oriented? At the very most, it's judgemental (a sin we've all dabbled in). Is the one online statement some detriment to real society in real life as a whole? And how is it ignorant to state a passive observation about an age group that is, as I said, notorious for not really caring about what happens in the here and now? There are exceptions, but they're few in number. I didn't say "all people in their 20's" now did I? Thus, I didn't quite rule them out. And I never said that I was using the article as an example.

Way to be overly defensive. Feel free to take that someplace else.

No, but you're alluding to 'most' 20 somethings, and that's where I have the problem. You just said, "There are exceptions, but they're few in number," which I consider bs. Most people when confronted with responsibility, particularly for a child, will take care of business, regardless of age bracket. Were that not the case, we'd all be reading much more of this on the news, instead of just every once in a while. Instead, you're taking the occasional rare case of stupidity like this by a 20 something and then applying it to 'most' 20 somethings.

WRONG.

There's a difference between saying that most 20 somethings are 'more enjoyment oriented' and saying that most are too irresponsible to raise a child.

I like how people are saying 20-something's shouldn't have kids because they party too much, when the "parents" in this case weren't partying at all, just playing video games.
