I have two questions that are related together:

Back in the day (around Summer 2001) we all saw the promos for Smallville in prepartion for the show's first episode, the Pilot, and Season One in general for the entire series. But, I wanted to ask; at what point from the first promo-the second episode did you know this was a Superman show? Because all the promos didn't say it (except for the next question I'll ask below after this), the premise of the promos were the basics: a young kid named Clark can do things because he is from another planet; the meteor shower that brought him here have done some side effects to people's lives (deaths, or having powers too); and finally he saves, and begins a connection to a man who might friend him or break him, named Lex. All set in a town that the show is named after: Smallville. Clark, Lex, Smallville; unless you didn't read a comic or didn't have that knowledge enough for that click in your brain; those words/names are a dead giveaway of this being a Supermans eries (or Young Superman series).

But the question is still: at what point from its first promo/trailer to the second episode (or first, whatever which that was the first to feature the credits with "Superman created by Siegel/Shuster" credit) how did you know this was a Superman show?

And secondly; I don't know if this was true, if I'm remembering it correctly as I can't find it anywhere, but wasn't there one promo/trailer out there back in '01 that said the following line "the adventures of Clark Kent; before he became Superman"? Is it in my head, though I remember watching it on TV when it was played, or am'I right and does it exist? If so, where is it so I can watch it?

I think the picture of him shirtless with a red :supes: painted on his chest was my 1st clue :hehe:

The title 'Smallville: Superman The Early Years' was my first clue it was a Superman show..

I remember watching the promo for the first time. It just appeared on TV, but I remember what I said though, "They're making a Superman show, HE DOESN'T EVEN LOOK LIKE SUPERMAN"....... and now here I am 10 years later in a Smallville thread lol, man I'm old.

What made me know that it was about Superman was when I saw "Smallville" title across the screen. I remember the last shot of the promo, Clark (who back than when I first saw the promo thought he was Asian) appears in a corn field, with the camera focusing on his face, and than he super speeds across the corn field.

I had no idea this was a Superman show until I started watching around season 5. I thought it was just another WB teen show. All I ever heard about it was from girls saying how dreamy and hot TW was. One day I was flipping the channel and read the episode description on my tv and realized that it sounded like Clark was actually Clark Kent a.k.a. Superman! lol

I knew from the beginning promo poster of him with the \S/, but was still cautious since it was being treated as nothing more than a WB teen drama (which I avoided like the plague).

I love the atmosphere/way of filming the first season looked

Song yet to be sung

Welling wasn't as built as is now. He was more model lean. Now he's bulked up.

I knew from the first promo.

I was excited for a different take on Superman's youth.

I wasn't disapointed. :p

Oh wooow. Thanks for posting. It's really something, to watch that and the new Season 10 Promo (the official, non-Comic Con, :30 ad) back-to-back.

I wish I could say I've been watching from day 1, but I actually started at the beginning of season four, when I saw that Lois would be joining the cast. I dont know why I hadn't watched the first three years, though.

The only season I really missed out on was season 5, and some of season 4. When I think about it I haven't really watch those episodes in order.

I remember When I first saw these tv promos and these posters. I already knew it was about Superman based on the title of the series.

They definitely traded up by getting Annette though. This one didn't have much personality.

Annette had a much better on screen chemistry with both John and Tom that you really did believe that she was both a wife and a mother . Compared to Cynthia Ettinger who just wasn't good old Ma Kent .

Does anyone remember if Smallville went to Comic Con before they premiered the pilot?

I was watching that the other night and I was amazed how everything looked exactly the same as the pilot, except for the actress. It's like they matched it shot for shot.

They recycled all the shots that didn't directly show her.

I know, that's what i mean. From what I remember of the top of my head, the shots with Martha look the same, aside from the parts in the house since it was a different setup there.

In the scene when she yells for Clark from downstairs they probably dubbed over the Cynthia with Annette.

I only bothered watching off and on and wasnt that big of a fanof the show S1-3. (Plus it was the show that replaced Buffy on TheWB(stupid for trying to cancel the show) and it aired against Buffy on UPN) Started watching again when I knew Lois would be coming on and fell off again, then came back full time when I knew Kara was coming. Though I do have all of them on dvd.

I can gladly say i watched episode #1 all the way up to this years finale with not a single break. What a ride.

I remember before it came out there was a lot of coverage on WB and even ET about a show on young Superman coming out, and I missed the first episode and got so pissed. I tried watching the show multiple times after but refused to watch the show unless it was from episode 1. Eventually I caught the re-runs during the winter hiatus and finished Season 1 with everyone else and then kept going from there. I was 8 then - I actually had to get special permission to stay up an hour later than my bedtime (from 9pm to 10pm) to watch the show when it got moved to Thursdays at 9pm.

Wow, ain't she terrible.

I've been watching Smallville starting with the very first episode when it first aired. I remember seeing commercials and articles in magazines before it started. It started while I was in middle school. :word:
