Barbara Gordon Casting Thread

I just think Irons was miscast. He should've played Mr. Freeze.

J.K. Just had no presence, which was odd.

I don’t think Irons and Simmons are any lesser than Caine and Oldman. Both of the formers could’a knocked it out of the park but the opportunity wasn’t there.

I also personally really liked Irons’ Alfred. Had things gone differently, his banter with Affleck could’a been a highlight in a Batman series.

Irons is awesome. He just wants to see Batfleck find a nice lady and have a few kids!

Also loved Irons as Alfred. He had that sass that reminded me of B:TAS, and some extra bite. Wish I could get more, but oh well. There wasn't enough of JK to really judge anything, but I did like what little I got.

Simmons was basically Basil Exposition in Justice League, but even with the little he had, I wasn't a huge fan. He might just be too tied to J Jonah for me.

I prefer an against type Gordon like Oldman anyways. Someone like Woody Harrelson or John Hawkes. If Reeves' take is entirely different from the DCEU, I might even go for Michael Shannon.

Hmmm, yeah... John Hawkes would make a good Gordon. Though I'd rather see him play a villain because he's just great at that.

Just make the whole thing a Nocturnal Animals reunion.

Jake as Batman, Shannon is Gordon, Amy Adams as Vicky Vale :woot:

Has anyone seen Isla Fisher, Amy Adams, and Jenna Fischer in the same room together?

:hmm

Agreed. Give it to a hungry female talent who wants to prove herself and may not get another opportunity like this rather than waiting on an old prune like Whedon who will live to find another project.

I think this is for the best.

1. Joss has been wrapped up in superhero universes since 2010, and I want some original stuff from him again.
2. While I really don't think he did a whole lot of harm to JL, he also didn't help much.
3. We've, rightly, entered into an era where it's no longer acceptable to just diversify things in front of the camera. You need authentic voices on the other side of the camera as well. That's one of the main reasons I wasn't all that into the idea of Ayer doing Sirens, even beyond just the reception of SS. A woman directed Wonder Woman and it was celebrated. A man of color directed Black Panther and it was celebrated. I don't think "Hey, here's our new movie focused on a young woman, written and directed by this dude who made a female superhero show back in the 90s!" would be that celebrated.

The two things are inseparable. Movies are nothing without the people that make them. Diverse people tell diverse stories.

Completely agreed. I always see the whole "hire the best person for the job" thing. I think there are plenty of competent female filmmakers that could make just as good of a Batgirl as any male filmmaker can.

Has absolutely zilch to do with casting, but...

Ehh, if they were going to do a Batgirl movie, Joss would be the type you'd want doing it.

That being said, they don't need to do a Batgirl movie. They still haven't got the fundamentals of their universe on solid footing yet, Wonder Woman aside. And Wonder Woman can fly the female-lead flag just fine for a while, the sequel's probably going to be huge.

Fix Batman & Superman first, make sure Aquaman works, maybe introduce Green Lantern. Then you can get into Batgirl and stuff down the road.

JW directing a Batgirl movie would have been a PR disaster, post ex-wife accusatios, and post-2017

Yeah.

I don't think his career's necessarily done, but they'll be wary of him for a while, especially with female-centric projects.

Still think putting all that aside and just looking at the movie itself, he'd have probably nailed a Batgirl movie of all superheros. This is still for the best though, both with all the controversy and the fact that nobody needs a Batgirl movie right now. Leave it a decade once the main players are established well.

Did Whedon step away, or did WB/DC tell him it was probably best not to continue?

I wouldn't be surprised if it was the latter.

His WW script wasn't too well received either. It's a very different time now compared to the late 90s when he made Buffy.

They should just concentrate on Wonder Woman and forget about all these Bat spinoffs.
