Barbara Gordon Casting Thread

My fan cast for Barbara (Amiah Miller) is younger than Dick (Finn Wolfhard). Come at me. :hehe:

I'll never understand the love for casting 20-ish actresses for Barbara's first outing. I'm walking out of the theater immediately when a romance is implied between Bruce and Barbara.
"Both characters are adults? Oh no! That must mean they are in a relationship!"

Such a weird view on human dynamics.

I mean, they literally shagged in Killing Joke because Bruce Timm has some really weird interests. Other people trying to imply similar things would not be a big stretch to me.

And that matters because...?

Bruce wasn't even an "adoptive father figure " to Barbara in the comics, that's just a lie, their dynamic was never like that. He never looked at her the same way he did Dick, Jason, Tim or Cassandra. The only reason it matters for Barbara to be a teen is because of her relationship with Grayson, but if Reeves isn't even planning to address that there's nothing in her character that requires her to be a teenager.

And people will make whatever fanfictions they want regardless if it has a basis in canon. There are people that shipped Bale's Batman with Heath's Joker for God's sake. And there were people that shipped Bruce/Barbara before TKJ.

It doesn't really matter, I'm just explaining why the whole Bruce x Barbara thing is a worry for some people. If it can happen in something as fairly lowkey as an animated movie, done by a guy who literally did Batman the Animated Series, it can also fairly easily be done by a guy doing something bigger like a live action movie. While true, there's always someone who's gonna ship weird stuff, especially like the stuff you just mentioned, they're not exactly the majority of fans. They're just a very weird minority who are twisting characters to fit their agenda and that's what matters most. Ships that most people actually support tend to be in line with both characters. Bruce and Selina is a good example. Bruce would never shag the Joker. It's just too out of character for too many different reasons. Selina on the other hand? Not so much. However, if you put something like Batman shagging the Joker in official canon, that creates a whole other slew of issues that could probably fill Pandora's Box.

I still don't understand why that means Barbara /must/ be a teenager. She can still be a young adult and not have anything romantic to do with Batman, especially if he's already with Selina in this movie.

I never said she did have to be, I was just explaining why some may be worried of a romantic implication being thrown in if Barbara's an adult.

There is nothing that requires her to be an adult in the first Matt Reeves Batman movie.

Maybr there is? We don't know Matt Reeves take on the mythos yet. That's why it's fair to fancast both teenagers and young adults in the part and explain what you'd prefer and why. I'd prefer a young adult but maybe there's something in Reeves story that requires her to be a teenager; or maybe she doesn't exist in his universe at all. We don't know.

I feel like it mostly depends on what point of Batman's career it'll take place in, more than anything. Whether or not it's Arkham Origins-esque early years or 100% prime is still a fair bit blurry. It being the former or latter will probably influence the age of characters like Barbara at least a fair bit

It also depends on how much Reeves decides to stick with all the little details of the bat universe in terms of chronology. Not everything it's going to be exactly like the comics, he could have a 26 year old Barbara in Year 2 for all we know. We really have no idea.

True, but for the sake of continuity, where in Batman's career it takes place is still gonna affect the ages of pretty much everyone. I'm inclined to believe it'll be prime Batman, due to Pattinson being mid 30s and Wright being early 50s, which is more or less the standard age for prime era Batman.

Who says it has to be her first outing or that casting for that age means her and Bruce have to have a romance in doing so?

I'd prefer neither of those castings.
I never said it was, I just said that I don't believe Kick Ass is 100% a comedy
But it not being 100% a comedy doesn't mean it's a pattern to be followed for non negative child raising dynamics, I think based on the more aggressive aspect of it and on it being what I think is more comedic is parts.
Reeves has picked two "unconventional" choices already in Pattinson and Wright. The conventional choices for Barbara are those aged 19-23. I say there's a good chance he'll cast an actual teenager (below 19). :cwink:
I'd prefer not.
Make sure you cast her younger than Nightwing, or someone is gonna have a meltdown
Why?

She was such a sweetheart in War of the Apes.

She'll probably be in Reeves' pocket for a role, but with Wright as Gordon I don't know if she will get the role, maybe if the write her as adopted or something. If Reeves is not letting this Batgirl to spin off her own film soon then there's the possibility of going really young, but if they want a spin off in the next 3-4 years then they might want a more established and a bit more experienced adult actress, the other possibility is Batgirl belongs to the Harley universe so that's another discussion....=P

would love isabella moner as batgirl but wouldn't it be weird having a black jim gordon and a non black barbara gordon? even if they're not in the same universe that choice will be very controversial imo
as for vanessa morgan i feel like she's too tv
Bruce can have 20 yr old female sidekicks without ****ing them, I would be very concerned if they made a bruce/babs romance like i would legit ge out and never watch a dc movie again
nightwing should be younger than barbara like in the comics

Since they race changed Commissioner Gordon by casting Jeffrey Wright as the new Gordon or so it seems...then I wonder if we get a black Barbara Gordon or a light skinned/biracial Barbara? If that is the case then I would go for Zendaya as Barbara Gordon especially since Marvel has lost the rights to the Spider Man franchise again now that it is more or less under the Sony umbrella again after Disney couldn't come to a deal

Isabella is mixed. you can just say her mother is a latina. No one will even bat an eye

Jaylen Barron she's an unknown but she could work

Erin Kellyman, Amiah Miller and Talia Jackson all work for me.

Also, Isabela Moner isn't black

i personally really like the idea of laura harrier as batgirl, zendaya shouldn’t be cast in every single role lol

Plus people won't recognize her like they would with Zendaya because her role in Homecoming was so minor anyway

Talia Jackson and Erin Kellyman look really good

How about Ella Rae Smith, 21?
