Hyde Park Entertainment and Capcom have signed action specialist Andrzej Bartkowiak to direct Street Fighter, a live-action feature film based on Capcom's video game.

Production is set to begin early next year with Fox distributing. Hyde Park's Ashok Amritraj and Patrick Aiello are producing while Capcom executive produces.

Bartkowiak's credits include Romeo Must Die, Exit Wounds, Cradle to the Grave and Doom. Prior to directing, his cinematographic credits include Lethal Weapon 4, U.S. Marshals, Falling Down and Speed.

The film is focused on female fighter Chun Li and her journey for justice. Justin Marks wrote the script and is currently doing a polish.

A film version of the game has already been produced before. In 1994, Jean-Claude Van Damme starred in the Universal movie, written and directed by Steven de Souza

oh lord, this guy? haha! okay...i won't expect anything better than Doom. which isn't saying much.

at least Doom had some great eye-candy. hope he picks a total hottie for Chun-Li.

Isn't funny to think that one day we might look back on the Jean Claude Van Damme Street Fighter as the good one?

They might as well bring Steven de Souza back cus it can't get any worse.

If you don't think of it as a street fighter movie then its pretty decent.

i dunno...an hour and a half of Chun-Li action sounds better than anything Jean Claude has to offer in my eyes.

Hmm not that i think about it your right. This one has more hot asian girl action. Hmm this movie is no longer street fighter. Its now HOT ASAIN GIRL FIGHTING THE STREETs.

I don't even remember the original Street Fighter was it really that bad

But here's the thing, I saw both movies when I was a kid but I still have fond memories of Super Mario Brothers... I remember nothing from Street Fighter except them ****in up the Green Dude and it had Ryu and Ken :(

I don't know what to think...I want a good SF movie but....Doom?

:(

It could be alot worse, at least Doom was decent. And Chun Li is actually a good character to pick as your focus, as she's new to the entire world of the Street Fighter tournament, seeing as she's only in it for revenge. Also, she's got a nice character arc you could do. Don't see why everyone's b**ching about this.

That's what Im saying! I'm going to hold my judgement til I see some production pics or a trailer.

I like Street Fighter as a comedy. Its silly and a terrible movie in a lot of ways but it has some really laugh out loud moments, "Quick! Change the channel!"

Oh I loves me the Chun Li too I'm not worried about any of all that trust me ;)

The good thing is that it can't possibly be better than the 1994 version, so in that sense, I'm kinda excited about this.
