Chun-Li Street Fighter Movie Coming
Source: Variety October 30, 2006

Ashok Amritraj's Hyde Park Entertainment and Capcom Ltd. are developing a new movie based on the popular videogame franchise "Street Fighter," says Variety. Screenwriter Justin Marks has been hired to adapt.

Hyde Park and Capcom -- Japanese publisher of "Street Fighter" -- will produce the film in a joint venture.

The movie will focus on the game's most popular female fighter, Chun-Li, but the exact storyline is being kept under wraps.

In 1994, Universal released a Street Fighter movie starring Jean-Claude Van Damme that featured most of the characters from the game.

Hyde Park and Capcom's film is targeted to be released in 2008, the 20th anniversary of the game franchise.

Marks just completed writing Voltran for producer Mark Gordon.

YEEEESSS!!!!!!

please god dont **** it up like the original one:(

Is it animated? I assume it is. If it isn't that would be really random:confused:

But it sounds like it is. If so. Hopefully it'll be better than that piece of **** Generations:o

I can see this working actually.
Bring out a live action Chun Li movie, make it all crazy kung fu and one of those films Americans go crazy for (Crouching Tiger, House of Flying swords etc).
Then do a Ryu film or something, then go for the big budget Street Fighter film the way it should have been done.

Chun Li eh? That's pretty awesome, but if they go live action, they're gonna have a hard finding someone to fill her thighs. :o

I want to be excited but I have this gut feeling that this is going to suck:( I hope I'm wrong.

As do I :(

Chun-Li????? Isn't Ryu or Ken the main good guy characters???

Yes, but ask anyone and their grandmother about Street fighter and Chun Li will be the first character that rolls out of their tounge. :o

I don't get it though unless they are doing something completely different than past female hero movies because most of them have failed. I don't see this movie doing great if it is going to turn out how I expect it.

Damn!!! I was hoping for Ryu  But what the hell, Chun Li is hot anyway :o

Why is everyone so quick to assume that superheroine movies will fail? ALL they need is a the right director and writer to get the job done successful. I think Whedon's Wonder Woman, just might be a step in the right direction for female superhero films.

Films like Catwoman, Aeon Flux, etc, etc, all had things going against them. Particularly Catwoman was doomed before Halle Berry even stepped on foot of the film. The moment it was announced it wouldn't be a Selina Kyle movie was it's mark of death. :o

Well I am presuming this is animated till I hear otherwise. If so, I am not as concerened about it being messed up as I would if it were live action.

However, if it is live action, please please please let it not suck!

No link?
Voltran?!? as in misspelled Voltron?

Chun Li film huh??? ummm not sure if im too thrilled about this idea, i mean come on now its all about Ryu and Ken. Their story is so great and would've made a great movie if they went that route in the previous movie.

not rly. everyone who knows Street Fighter knows Ryu before Chun-Li. that a fact.

I'm assuming it's live-action. If it were animated, it wouldn't really be that big of news and they would at least have specified as such. So it's gotta be live, but why not focus on Ryu and Ken? You know, the LEAD CHARACTERS?

Why do they insist on not making the main character Ryu? It worked perfectly for the animated movie.

Yeah. It's always Ryu, and the followed by Ken, Chun Li THEN Guile.

think of it as a SPIN OFF movie and it might work
