Conan The Barbarian was one of my favorite scores of all time, and it was the SECOND CD I ever purchased. I wore it out in fact, and had to buy another one. Such a great and ecclectic score, yet brutal and hard hitting, just as the movie itself was. That score made the movie, like John Williams does to Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Jaws, etc.

Hunt for Red October is also a brilliant score. Very subtle and slow moving, and at the same time with sudden rises into epic heights, underscoring the momentous nature of a nuclear submarine and her crew whose purpose is unknown.

There are many other scores of his that are great. Robocop, etc. He will be missed. One of the greats.

Well, this saddens me. :(
My own personal favorite of his scores was the Robocop score, but the score for Conan the Barbarian is great as well, and certainly both are very memorable.

Damn. First I hear about Adrienne Shelley's murder, now this.

Basil Poledouris was a great composer, as his themes for Conan the Barbarian and Robocop prove. He was a great talent, and his death marks a great loss.

Rest In Peace, Basil.

Indeed. Goddamn, it seems like Williams is the only old-school film composer left...
