Batman 89 Vs. TDK

All TDK for me. Even though I have a few issues with TDK, I've watched that film more times then I can count on dvd, and as an adult (with little money to spare), I saw it at the theatre 5 times. (I saw Batman Begins 5 times in theatres as well) Batman 89? As a teenager with loads of money to spare and lots of time on my hands, I saw it and every other Bat film once. A fifty something year old Joker still makes me cringe.

This is a masterpiece against a masterpiee. Not only I can't decide but I don't want to.

So many things I prefer from B89 over TDK.

Nuff said!

And just by looking at your avatar, one can easily see that you can recognize another masterpiece, though very different one...

B89 was reigning champion for me the majority of my life. It's what made me a lifelong Batman fanatic. I have every word of that movie memorized and can recite it right now no problem.

But nothing lasts forever. It's a great movie, but TDK is not only an amazing film, but an amazing and PERFECT Batman movie.

The king(B89) is dead. Long live the king(TDK).

TDK. B89 is the most overrated superhero movie in the history of mankind.

So is TDK of course, but at least it's good...

I need to rewatch B89 sometime because I haven't seen it in years. It would probably seem really cheesy after TDK.

There's some cheese, but I think it holds up rather well overall.

There's really not that much cheese in B89. It can look dated at times, but the way it's set up, it's more like it's a cheesy and dated movie from the '40s, rather than some modern superhero parody film gone wrong. Burton really did a nice job blending '40s and '80s sensibilities to create something that was both timeless and kind of lost in the past.

there is nothing 40s about "Batman" except the clothing style.

And the kind of film-noir-ish vibe the Design of Gotham city gives off.

Really, the only thing that dates B89 as an 80's movie is the Prince soundtrack. If that wasn't there, it would be pretty much timeless.

Prince songs were greatness.

The costume design, the art direction, the cinematography...all were very reminiscent of the '40s. That's a pretty sizable chunk of the movie.

There was a lot of '80s hair going around in B89 too...

1. TDK
2. Nolan
3. Keaton - Bale's Bat-voice just grates too much.
4. Ledger. Easily.
5. Zimmer-Howard. Tough one, but it arouses genuine emotion in me that Elfman's score doesn't.
6. Basinger. Good Lord, I wanted to play hide the salami with her the way she looked in that movie.
7. Gough. The quintessential Alfred.

the dark knight is the better film, but batman (1989) will always have a special place in my heart.

The only thing that '89 has over TDK is its' score by Danny Elfman. Other than that I think it's the better film in every respect. Don't get me wrong I enjoy '89, but I don't see it as anything more than a well made popcorn flick.

i'm with you.

just touching on the best joker debate, it's heath all the way for me.

dozens of actors could have done what nicholson did, but i can't think of many actors that have that "fearlessness" than nolan talked about being a requirement for taking on this new vision of the joker.

jack's joker was never definitive. it was fun. good, bordering on great -and back in the day, it was pretty impressive. but i never, ever would have said it was the best portrayal of the character in any medium, because it didn't come close. but heath... well, he's too good to top. in all liklihood, too good to equal, as well.

i just think it's amazing that heath took a role that was so clearly jack's and well known and brought something incredibly new and great to the table. he really nailed it. i got what i consider basically the perfect interpretation of joker on screen. i'm happy it exists.
