I find that alot of bat fans, in an attempt to view him as more..."interesting" hold batman to double standards that most heroes he inhabits the DCU with have as well...

IMO, i must roll my eyes at the notion that batman is crazy because he has no powers and fights crime...when green arrow does the same thing...in fact, Ga is even gutsier than batman because he isnt even half as smart or overall skilled as bruce....Batfans also act like Batman is the only hero with criminal like tendencies...or do people forget its a much bigger crime when superman hurls a villain though thousand dollar skyscrapers...

No doubt batman is different from other heroes...but people really try too hard to seperate him from the DCU, considering hes one of the archetypes for the entire company in the first place

I think the reason that people consider Batman crazy isn't because he has no powers and fight crime (in a bat suit), but because that was his response to having his parents murdered in front of him as a little boy.

Green Arrow's just a rich boy who got stranded on an island...

Batman started without his parents getting killed. His origin was a "retcon". Batman is not even close to being insane. Batman would totally fail at his job. He can't be the "World's Greatest Detective" and insane at the same time.

I must agree with you, "The Batman". People tend to make Batman into something he is not. Years ago he was the guy who teamed-up with other heroes regularly, now those "other heroes" are supposed to be afraid of him. He also became more intelligent than all of them and acted like a prick to them.

And people try to tell me "He was always that way".

I see the overall point you're making about Batman's sanity. The one thing that I would interject in terms of a Green Arrow/Batman comparison is that (in my opinion) Ollie is the more well-rounded person. He's devoted to what he does as a crime fighter, but he's also got a wife and family.

I know that there's an argument to be made that Bruce has a family, too. However, I don't think the dynamic between Bruce and Dick, Tim or Damian is as "parental" as the relationship between Ollie and Roy, Connor or Mia is right now. Flawed as he might be, Ollie makes a real effort to be a father figure to each of those three.

It seems to me that Bruce has his mission first and foremost, then he has people in his life that help him on that mission. He won't allow himself to form the kinds of bonds that could detract from his ability to fight crime. I don't think that makes him insane, but I do think it undermines the validity of a direct Green Arrow/Batman comparison. (It's also one of the things that makes Batman such a great character to read).

Just my two cents...
