Yeah, that's after he knows and it deals with the satellite leading into IC. I didn't read OMAC, but I think JLA: Crisis of Conscience has more immediate ramifications about the fallout from the mindwipe.

The OMAC Project was cool. It explains how and why all of those people become OMACs. I never read JLA: Crisis of Concience. But just reading Identity Crisis is enough to understand why he built Brother I in the first place and is where you first find out about the mindwipe; there never was an issue where Dr.Light actually raped Sue Dibny and there was never an issue where Batman got mindwiped (only the flash-back seen in Identity Crisis). The OMAC Project shows Batman realizing he has lost control of his satelite and we see a lot of Checkmate stuff.
The reason I'm voting against Bane breaking his back is because it was not nearly as huge when you think about it. It was huge for Batman but the other choice affected the DCU and started a chain of events that lead to an even bigger DCU event.
Some other stories that happen before Infinite Crisis (a few months) are things you should get a hold on like Day of Vengeance. Holy crap was that one amazing. Also, Villains United was great.

And thanks for your help Mister J and Trusty. Money was pretty much the only thing holding me back from picking up all the great GNs I missed. But today I happened to get a new job, so off to the comic shop I shall go.
