So why does'nt the silly Bastard buy Monster Men and read that?? Bollocks Review!!!!!

It is a ****ty review indeed. He doesn't make valid comments at all. I haven't read Monster Men but that doesn't keep me from liking this issue.

Here's a review of Mad Monk #1, that I was quite surprised at. I actually really enjoyed issue 1 and when I saw this I really thought the reviewer was just pissed at not reading Monster Men.

I REALLY hope that this guy doesn't get paid for his reviews. His biggest complaint was the fact that the Mad Monk didn't make an appearance in the first issue. Dude, it's a six issue miniseries, there will be plenty of time to see the character.

Most people are going to buy this to see BATMAN not the freakin' Mad Monk.

Those are things I thought to myself when reading it. It seems these days that anyone can review comments for websites such as this. I thought the guy was an idiot.

I've always thought that the whole point of a "review" was that you're reviewing it for a mass audience, and not for yourself. The guy was going on and on about what HE wanted instead of what Batman fans as a whole would get out of it.

Which, in my opinion, any Batman fan should be picking this up.

That's what I thought. Obivously liking a comic book, a certain band, whatever, is subjective but he just seemed intent on disliking it because he missed out on the awesome Monster Men. Here's a thought aswell, if he knew he was going to be reviewing Mad Monk, maybe he should have read Monster Men as some research. What a crazy idea that is.

And yes, any Bats fan should pick this up.

Read the second issue. Good stuff, especially the detective aspects.

The 2nd issue rocked. The Monk is one sick and creepy guy.

I hear ya--I just find it odd to see Batman face the Monster Men without mowing them away with a machine gun. :o :)

Sorry if someone has already said this, I haven't read the rest of the posts yet. I understand where you are coming from, but what I really like about these stories is that Matt Wagner has found a way to take these classic pre-crisis storylines, and put them into post-crisis continuity. The originals have their charm, but it would be impossible to do a literal retelling of the stories and not make them elseworlds.

Speaking of Matt Wagner, with the way his take on Batman is turning out, I'm really thinking DC should consider putting out an in-continuity year one bi-monthly ongoing written and drawn by Matt Wagner. There are so many holes in Batman's first year, it would be nice to have someone fill in the blanks, and Matt Wagner is doing a brilliant job of that so far.

i loved the first issue. i'll be picking up the second and the monster men trade tomorrow.

is the man who laughs still available anywhere?

Damn, this book is definitely one of the best Bat-books being put out now. The Mad Monk is seriously up there on the extremely creepy list right now. That whole sequence with him and that girl was freakin' nuts! :wow:

And the nods to continuity were a huge plus with me. Good to see that this is easily a nice fit in between Year One and The Long Halloween. :woot:

Anyone notice issue one was printed with a "normal" paper cover and issue two with the new Glossy cover? Why Dc...Why?

When this is done, Dc should release one Absolute edition wich includes:
Faces, Trinity, Monstermen, Mad Monk and all his coverwork (old and new)!

Btw, Carmine there's going to be an absolute TLH!

I got Monster Men and Mad Monk #1 a few days ago. The Mad Monk #1 cover owns all. Can anyone post Kane's original?

That's one of those oversized re-colored, extremely expensive books right? Cool.

I noticed that right away, but I got over it. :woot:

Julie Madison is such an air-head! Creepy castle means "turn car around" and meet me at a McDonalds. What a dope.

Just read this today. Decent issue, though I agree with celldog a little bit. I mean, I think I'd have second thoughts seeing a giant creepy castle and then seeing a creepy, extremely pale man in a red robe, heh. But I guess you could rack it up as Julie being deeply concerned for her father and finding anyway to help him. Plus this is obviously early in Batman's career and people were a lot more trusting in Gotham than they would be a few years down the road with Joker's, Penguin's, and Two Face's running around.

And I love the nods to continuity in these mini's. We get a nice sequence of Carmine Falcone and Sal Maroni.

Plus the whole "being unbelievably stupidly brave and/or unsuspecting" is a pretty standard plot device for "horror" stories. Cassic vampire stories included.

Old school. Loving it. And Wagner's art makes it even better.
