Batman: The Widening Gyre

I don't know how right or wrong that review is because I'm not reading The Widening Gyre, but it's a damned entertaining read. Batman gets high and pisses himself? :lmao:

Yeah after he goes and scares the biggest Mobsters of Gotham, he got so excited about it he... Yeah his balls exploded more or less. :awesome:

I guess people just see Batman as much more of an untouchable God than I do. I can't believe all of the negative press this issue got. It is probably one of my top ten all time issues. Great story. Great character moments. Fantastic reveal.

how Kevin Smith writes the Batman characters

Widening Gyre is awesome. And yes the whole point of Kevin Smith doing Batman was him to do Batman the way he wants... Like Frank Miller, Grant Morrison and so many other writers are doing.

Kevin Smith writes a Batman story like a 13yo boy would write a Batman story. Which actually makes for something more awesome than it is laughable. There are definitely moments where I wanted to cringe at the pointless amount of immature innuendo, but he always weaved it all into a compelling story. I'm quite excited for the second book...whenever it releases.

"Bladder spasm" is going right up there with "Amazonian bee weapon."

Except Bladder Spasm is funny and happens in a good comic. Just ask Wompum!!!!! C'mon you guys trust that guy atleast regarding comic opinions! :p

Batman: The Widening Gyre Hardcover came out this week, i warmly welcome everyone to read it! It's a standalone story, but works even better if you checked out Cacophony. Kevin Smith was recently interviewed by CBR, Click here!

But make no mistake about it, the whole reason we did these first six issues was to get to that last moment. And the second we agreed on it, it was like, "What do you do next?" And we knew the next six would be "Batman goes bat****." We've been plotting it out slowly, and it's no longer about "What do you want to draw?" It's now about "How do you want to see Batman drawn?" in terms of how he was cleaned up in the first six, and now we're asking how much blood we can put in, how much stubble he can have and **** like that. They're polar opposites, "Gyre" volume 1 and volume 2. They're completely different books. You could give your mother volume 1 and just leave off the last two pages, but you couldn't give her volume 2 because it's the "Batman beats ass" book.

The interview talks alot about Widening Gyre's ending and with a darn good reason, it was a jaw dropping moment that makes you go all crazy, and hearing Kevin Smith digging Morrison's old Batman (the grimdark determined one) makes me wonder how much is that inspiration for volume 2.

You just finished filming your new movie "Red State." Does that mean that you'll have time coming up to dive back into writing Batman?
Oh yeah, I've been. I'm almost done with my script, and Walter will get it by the end of next week or something. We're looking for Spring to launch the new one.

Bring on 2011!

So.... if you don't like WG, you are an 11 year-old intellect who simply hasn't read enough Batman?

Wow. That's just..... wow.

Volume 2 of Widening Gyre sounds pretty neat hope its as fab as the first six issues of the comic book were
