I hope they go with Jordan. I want he and Flash's chemistry
I doubt they would. I suspect the thinking may have been that Aquaman is lame, so all but the kernel of his attributes must be supplanted with "badass" elements derived from elsewhere. And that bearded tattooed guy from Game of Thrones was "badass", within a pseudo-medieval/fantasy context, so he could be transubstantiated into Aquaman.
I think this is a better look than the traditional one.
I actually think that they just effectively combined 90s Aquaman with some pacific island cultural influences rather than the extreme some people seem to be making in that he's now totally inconsistent with the character because they tried too hard to make him "badass".
I don't.I think this is a better look than the traditional one.
Bolded text: Agree. But the final result is still too much barbaric, conspicuously "badass" and too similar to Momoa's previous roles. As someone who prefers 90's Aquaman to classic one, I find that they could do a better work.
That's more of a coincidence. These tattoos clearly have cultural precedent and aren't just there for design. It feels too much of an extension of GoT, where he also had tattoos.
Snyder didn't want the 90s Aquaman, he wanted the GoT version.
A dishonor to the character
I don't.
I will always dislike the look Aquaman has in the pic. It's not what I wanted to see. You people just have to understand my opinion there
Snyder and his team lack faith in the character's ability to be badass without changing his looks that much.
With that said, I could end up enjoying the film, but I won't approve of Aquaman's new design.
After good news such as Ezra Flash, Sheridan Cyclops and Kodi Nightcrawler, there was bound to happen some bad news for me sooner or later. And it happened to be Aquaman, one of the heroes that I wanted to see the most.

Aquaman is Polynesian just because Momoa is? They changed the character's appearance to be as close to Momoa as possible, and not the other way around (what's usually called 'acting')?
Now I fear they have dropped the whole Atlantis aspect of him.
Maybe Arthur Curry is just a Polynesian god-like being in Snyder's vision, not an Atlantean at all. Who knows what more changes they have made to the character other than the looks.

I don't think they're trying to say that Aquaman is necessarily Polynesian, but they've definitely taken aspects of the Polynesian culture to help create his appearance.
WW fans needlessly lit their hair on fire worried that she'd be Kryptonian. Now Aquaman's fans will probably do the same over baseless worries he won't be connected to Atlantis. The DCCU. Gotta love it. Controversy triggers interest. Win, win. In the end I suppose.
All they have to do is say Arthur Curry is part Hawaiian to explain the tattoos. That's not really changing the character.
Ah, but then the nitpick will be...what kind of metal was used for the tattoo needle that could pierce his half Alantean skin?lol

Impossible!Hell, I won't complain if they place Atlantis in (under) Polynesia. Imagine a solo film with such locations - an ancient underwater city and Polynesian islands.
