This is a curiosity I have. I personally rank them about the same and have trouble deciding which is my favorite between them when I give it thought.

What do you guys think?

Feel free to pick your preferred version of BvS (theatrical or director's)

Thor: The Dark World for me, I personally don't see the hate/dislike people have for it. I think it's the best Thor movie as well.

As for BvS, it's got too many problems, I don't dislike it as much as other people, but ranks for me just about inside the zone of acceptable comic book movie.

BvS (ultimate cut), definitely. The Dark World has no redeeming qualities.

The Dark World, by absolute miles. It may be one of the weakest films in the MCU and it's certainly the weakest Thor film, but it's still vastly better than BvS. TDW has it's high points (the scenes in Asgard, especially between Thor and Loki, Frigga's funeral, e.t.c), but BvS has no real high points whatsoever.

TDW by far. Hemsworth and Hiddleston were very enjoyable. There's no performances in BvS that can be described as that for me. Or anything else very enjoyable for that matter.

They're both good films, and I've never understood the hate that either gets. TDW was quirky and introduced more of the Nine Realms' workings. BvS took some chances, had some gorgeous visuals, and ended with one of the best battles in CBM history.

One of them is the most disappointing and heart breaking pile of feces with a mostly useless love interest, the other one is dull with cringe moments, but is almost salvaged by the guy in the red cape and the clown who steals stuff.

The Dark World has no redeeming qualities.

TDW is competent, forgettable nonsense.

Both cuts of BvS are incompetent, unforgettable nonsense.

I'll take the former.

I'll take unforgettable nonsense over forgettable nonsense. So BvS.

I didn't finish watching Dark World with a bad taste in my mouth. It was just an ok movie.

So thats my reasoning, I guess.

BvS for me, especially if we are talking the UC.

I don’t hate TDW, but it’s certainky one of the dullest MCU movies.

but BvS has no real high points whatsoever.

You know, I was thinking "Oh, that time WW smiled" and then I found the gif and realized how incredibly sexual it was. So... now I feel a little bit silly, and I'm not sure what to say.

I will say I voted for TDW, because it had genuine laughs and actually moving tragedy (even if I personally was not moved by Loki's supposed death). And it only took two hours to show me it was a mediocre film instead of 3.

I voted for Dark World. I think it’s the worst MCU entry, but even then it’s competent and it didn’t be leave me disliking the main protagonist.

BvS made me dislike both Batman and Superman. That’s awful.

Also, I’ve never seen the Ultimate edition of BvS. The theatrical cut was so awful, I’ve never been able to bring myself to watch a longer cut, even if it makes it slightly better.
If however, Marvel said they’d release a longer version of the Dark World, definitely give it a go. So if we’re going by, which movie makes me want to watch a longer version of it, it’s the Dark World.

It's silly how people say these films have no redeeming qualities. They both have great production design, music, cinematography, sets, costumes, sound direction, action scenes, choreography, and so on and so on.

We're so overwhelmed with riches in the superhero genre right now, we're losing perspective. Watch Superman IV or The Incredible Hulk Returns and then say Batman v Superman or Thor: The Dark World have no redeeming qualities.

It's a tough call but I rank BvS a little higher.

Thor 2 has Selvig running around naked, and is as such the worst of the modern CBMs.

How does either of these movies have "great" cinematography?

Thor The Dark World suffers greatly from a silly plot, hollow side characters and some moments that are truly horrendous visually speaking but Batman v Superman is all that, on steroids, over a longer runtime which makes it so much worse.

On the plus side, Thor The Dark World has compelling leads, improves over the first movie in terms of production design and scope. It also has its moments (Frigga's funeral, some of Loki's bits). Batman v Superman introduces an enjoyable Wonder Woman and even though I dislike what they did with Batman in this film, the warehouse scene is definitely a highlight (along with Jeremy Irons as Alfred). And I do enjoy Wonder Woman's theme along with the returning motifs from the Man of Steel soundtrack.

Batman v Superman.

There are rich reserves for laughs here. Bruce Wayne's opening monologue. The Martha scene. The chase scene. Not to mention Luthor played by that pip squeak Zuckerberg oscillates from amusing to laugh out loud funny. All of these scenes are worth an YouTube visit once a year.

There are a couple of genuine badass scenes. The warehouse beat up. If you can ignore the senseless killings, it's a nifty self contained clip. Also, the dystopia vision sequence, looking like a cross between mad max and sucker punch, is also neat to watch in isolation as long as you don't remind yourself that it makes no sense.

I don't ever wanna watch The Dark World ever again. Ever. It's a vacuous bore.
