Valve is the same as everyone else, stop kidding yourself.

Also, smoking cigars and snorting coke off of prostitutes backs isnt that bad. Id assume its a fairly entertaining Saturday night.

I don't think every developer is the same. Some are totally fine with rushing a product out just to get some cash. There are some developers that won't release a game until THEY feel like it's polished. Companies like that prefer to keep their good name then get quick cash off a title. That's how Arenanet works. I know a guy who works there. Money is important to them, but making a quality product is equally as important because they recognize that it's the fans respect that really helps keep them in business.

Money keeps you in business, not respect, but i see where you are coming from.

I won't be downloading Origin unless it is physically unavoidable.

I've become quite fond of Steam after originally hating it & actually I run all my games through it now.. and I've only ever actually purchased 1 game through Steam which was Alien vs Predator... and I've already pre-ordered a physical copy of BF3 (& MW3) at my local Game shop.

I don't really understand why EA would stop Steam from selling their game though.. seems kinda daft to me.

From what I saw yesterday "Origin" seems to have outright copy-pasted steams design.

Can't say it's worth complaining about as steam has a great design.
The price of "The Old Republic" put me right off it though. Rather than trying to launch it building trust by offering great service like steam they seem content with attempting to exploite a hyped game. The prices in general are horrible.

Texas Battlefield 3 launch LAN bans women from attending

Enthusiasts of military-style first-person shooters are not well known for their progressive thoughts on the matter of gender. The organizers of a large LAN party in Texas, scheduled to celebrate the launch of Battlefield 3, have decided the best way to deal with any slurs hurled at female gamers is to simply forbid them from attending.

"Nothing ruins a good LAN party like uncomfortable guests or lots of tension, both of which can result from mixing immature, misogynistic male-gamers with female counterparts," the organizers originally wrote in an event FAQ. "Though we've done our best to avoid these situations in years past, we've certainly had our share of problems. As a result, we no longer allow women to attend this event.

This paragraph has since been removed, as the stink over the exclusion went viral, and replaced with: "This event is a 'gentlemen's retreat'; as such we do not allow women to attend."

This is a large, private event and its organizers certainly have the right to associate with whomever they please. But given what I usually hear over my headset in military shooters like Battlefield, I wonder if this party would so outwardly ban any black gamers from registering. Because it would be so, you know, uncomfortable to hear them being insulted.

Or maybe the answer here is to forbid that kind of obnoxious behavior, and kick out anyone who breaks the rule, $49 registration be damned. (Battlefield 3, PC, PS3, Xbox 360)

I don't want to know the kind of people who would pay 50 dollars to go to a guys only Battlefield LAN party in Texas.

If people would just grow thicker skin, we wouldnt have to worry about any of this. This political correctness garbage has gotten out of control.

If that's the kind of audience they have to put up with then it's probably no big loss.

Yea true. The problem is that these organizers are so deathly afraid of someones feelings getting hurt at this even that they are banning a group of people who they feel might be at the end of verbal abuse. I mean every where you turn there is some form of absurd political correctness. Be it at a little league tee-ball game that doesnt keep score, to a movie trailer that cant use the word "gay" to describe a car, because some poor loser might have their feelings hurt. Its ridiculous.

Oh well, its why i try to be as offensive and anti pc as i can. I have to help balance it out.

On topic though, how are you liking the beta?

I do like how they pretty unabashedly called themselves immature and misogynistic in that original statement.

It's still in a pretty rough state with alot of features missing, I don't want to judge the final product wrongly. The bipod mounting seems to work pretty good though. Unlockes seem to progress at a much slower pace than Bad Company 2. The map is 32 player designed, theres no jets or tanks or anything, it's very linear in nature. Overall, just going by the alpha version, eh, I mean it's alright but it's not really blowing my mind like the early footage did. But again, it's a very rough alpha state.

Is there a purpose to the bipod? Does it increase the accuracy of the weapon at all? How is the accuracy of the SAW weapons btw? Because in BC2 they were FAR too accurate. Altho i guess its all moot as everything, id assume is subject to change.

When you set up the bipod your crosshair before very tight and small, so I presume it improves accuracy by a fair bit. You can only turn about 130-140 degress though once it's set up.
I haven't really tried any of the other classes or got any unlockes beyond abit of the medic class. It seems you don't drop med-kits anymore, just use the paddles.
