Beautiful Creatures

I knew this would bomb. It had no hook what so ever, it's trailers were boring and teenage girls don't like witches as much as vampires. The fact that 55-60mil was spent on this thing is ridiculous. The international prospects look dubious as well because of the complete lack of star power.

I'm sure the Host isn't going to be good and isn't going to be some smash but it's trailers are way better than Creatures. The sci fi angle might make it perform just as poorly though. Interestingly enough Warm Bodies was based on a YA novel and is a hit so this YA novel to screen fad is far from dead. As if the 400mil grossing Hunger Games didn't tell us that last year.

Rossum's film career is firmly in the toilet and that is a shame because she is talented. I don't think her slight resemblance to a certain Oscar nominee is helping matters.

WB dumped this. Hardly any marketing. I mean you don't release this when you have DH5 and another Sparks adaptation opening. Essentially the entire GA you might attract to this are covered.

Her film comeback failed, but she's still smoking hot.

Rossum still has Shameless and probably is cool with doing supporting roles on occasion. I said in the TMNT thread she needs to screen test for April.

I didn't know Rossum was in this. Ugh, I feel for her but she better turn it around by firing her agent... ASAP. She's a very underrated talented young actress. Honestly, how does Kristen Stewart still keep getting roles over Emmy? She's awful.

Well Stewart actually has hit movies and Hollywood likes her. Don't blame Stewart for Rossum's failure in films. Rossum has been in stuff like Dragon Ball so it's obvious that she has a terrible agent, relatively bad luck on the auditioning circut. Yes she has that show and is still far more successful than 99% of actresses in hollywood so I'm not trying to downplay her success but the moviestar thing isn't. working out. She as been in flop after flop after flop.

She is still young and anything can happen but lets face it, it's hard to compete with the likes of Emma Stone, Kristen Stewart, Rooney Mara, Scarlett Johansson and Jennifer Lawrence and the like for roles. She's never going to be anybody's first choice in that age bracket. I've been hoping for a break out for forever and I'll still hope.

Let's be honest here, the only reason she even has a career these days is because of those pitiful Twilight films -- not because she's a talented actress. She's been average to mediocre in 95% of her outings. Rossum is vastly superior, but like Gemma, she has a horrific agent who can't pick a solid script. She's only 26 though, and she's on a highly-rated show. So there's still hope, but that won't last if she continues to stick by her current agent. Either way, I sense she'll have a decent tv career if her film career stays where its at.

It's a shame this is performing so poorly. Granted, I had absolutely no intention of seeing this in theaters, but I didn't think the commercials looked half bad.

Though that might just be because they used Seven Devils in one of the ads, and that's absolute ear porn for me, so... :o

I do not know if Hathaway is really hurting Rossum (though Rossum is a much better singer...yeah, I said it).

But I do agree it is a shame that her career in film is not soaring when she is very talented.

Rossum, Davis and Irons are the only people I recognized in this thing. The ads don't even mention the two kid leads, which shows how much they mean.

Rossum already did the firing her agent thing.

She needs to fire the new agent then. She is beautiful and talented and deserves better on the movie front. I hope she can wiggle her way into some hit franchise so that can get offers for actual decent movies for once.

I don't buy that WB didn't care about this film. Yes it was going up against two other films but releasing your teen romance on V-Day/a holliday weekend is hardly a dump job. The film also had a decent marketing push. I'm not saying they expected or hoped for Twilight cash or even 100mil but I do think that they were hoping for 60-70mil total. And I do think they expected to gross more than 10mil after four days. A lot of people in the industry were thinking 25mil for the five day holliday weekend.

Well, it's not exactly like the first Twilight was blasting Stewart and Pattinson's names either. All Pattinson was known for was Goblet of Fire and Stewart was known for being the prepubescent boy in Panic Room. The movie is what made them known.

LOL, WB didn't know how to market this thing since it involved witchcraft. Beforehand they were trying to push it as the anti-Twilight, but that approach failed.

I like Emmy Rossum a lot, but she hasn't done a good job of picking her projects in the last decade. I don't really blame Phantom on her since she did a good job, and Schumacher screwed that production over by casting a guy who couldn't sing as the Phantom and did a lot of goofy **** with the movie he shouldn't have.

At this point, I don't ever really see her becoming a big star. She's basically the poor man's Anne Hathaway at this point.

I didn't even know she was being compared to Anne. Is it because of their facial features (especially the eyes and mouth)?

They were coming up at a similar time and they look similar, but Anne Hathaway's career basically took off while Rossum's declined.

Well she/her agent chose one project well, and thankfully, it's the long-term one. Shameless is not only high-rated for Showtime, but she's utterly fantastic and pretty much universally praised on it. I think a lot of critics before that show were questioning whether or not she could act or was just another pretty face/voice, but now she's got "cred" on that front. You can even kinda tell in the reviews for this movie that many of the critics have a higher regard for her talent than they did when, say, Poseidon came out, lol.

But I agree that she's never gonna be a big movie star or anything. She can still be a well-known and respected actress, though...as long as she starts choosing better movie roles, of course.

It's probably better she's not rammed down our throat and thrown into every female character fan casting like so many other chicks as of late. I'd rather her be a left field choice when cast in something. Right now everybody is cycling Jennifer Lawrence/Emily Blunt/Hayley Atwell/Gemma Armeton/MEW for every other female role.

how dare you not recognize Emma Thompson!:o

ok i actually agree with you here. scary.

I hate the recycled fancasting as well but I don't know what that has to do with Rossum's sadly poor film career?

It's nice to see that so many on here agree that she is talented and deserves better roles in better films. And I'm talking about dramas as well as dumb action fair that we all love so much.

her and chatwin rebounded good with shameless i thought they both sucked in DBE but both are awesome on shameless

Shameless is a great show (though it's gratuitous nudity, while nice for fanboys, does hurt the show some, IMO).

But it is a shame that she cannot get another major leading role. She was great in Phantom and could easily be doing most leading parts in Hollywood, because most female parts are honestly poorly written. I think Rossum has a strong fanbase because she is a clear triple threat of talent while some actresses don't have any (coughKristenStewartJessicaBielandmanymorecough) become stars. Most starlets who don't make it are just a lot less talented.

Ah well. I think between Shameless and Phantom, she has enough credibility to find interesting roles in the indie circuit or on future premium cable. It seems like that is where a lot of talent is going.

So...is this a good movie? Because the trailers looked horrible.

let her start over with small low budget movies.she can also fire her agent. maybe in 5 years she can again be in a blockbuster. :yay:
