Ben Affleck Confirms Live By Night as His Next Feature

Wow, this is sitting at 20% rotten at the moment. Not really what I was hoping for. It seems so far the majority found the film to be a complete miss.

Yeah it's really disheartening. I haven't read many of the full reviews but the blurbs I've read really sadden me.

See, now detractors have been waiting for a misfire from Affleck and can use it as ammo sadly.

Not only that, but we know this will take away hope from many about the possibility of The Batman becoming the best Batman movie ever made.

This is so disheartening

Still looking forward to the film though. It's been a rough year for Ben, at least he's got that sweet Batman money though.

As someone who is hoping The Batman is amazing this is pretty much my reaction to this https://***********/waxpancake/status/811128856711049216

Every director has a bad movie, just take the hit, learn from it and move on

Yes, they do but Affleck already has people lying in wait for him to **** up, lol.

Somewhere, Benal is doing his little happy dance.

Disheartening to hear this, because I just know how much people are gonna s**t on Affleck just for the pleasure of it.

This was never an Oscar bait movie. If it was they would've played it at one of the numerous prestige film festivals. They never played it in one.

I can't see how anyone could watch the trailers and believe it was an Oscar bait movie. Regardless of that, it sucks that this film is getting the reviews that it is. It seems modern made gangster films just don't get made the way the used to.

I wanted to make a classic-looking and -feeling throwback movie. It's a love letter to those '30s and '40s gangster movies. [But] it's the hardest movie I've done.

That awkward moment where your younger brother made a better film than you did.

I can already hear the "its because of the anti-DCEU bias" in the distance...

I saw someone mention they already saw people saying that. They probably forgot about Arrival and Nocturnal Animals. Fantastic Beasts too.

Casey has been going the Indie route lately and was considered the better 'Actor' anyway. He just didn't have a presence like Ben.

There's still Kubrick, Nolan, Cameron, Villeneuve...

Haha, have you never Cameron's Piranha the spawning movie? Awful movie, that was critically panned. I only saw it because it was his directorial debut.

And personally I think Nolan made a poor movie with TDKR, though to be fair I'm probably in the minority in this.

Also let's not forget Kubrick did Eyes Wide Shut and Villeneuve dropped the ball with Enemy.

Yeah, in terms of rep among film enthusiasts, Casey's usually considered as the "better actor" among the two anyway while Ben's rep is better as a director rather than an actor.

Which is why I don't care about the criticisms about Ben's acting because I always found him limited anyway but I was disappointed that the film is getting bad reviews because I have a huge faith in him as a director.
