Hey, did anyone think of combining aspects of the Negative Zone, 616 Ben Reilly, and Ultimate Ben Reilly to create his film counterpart? I was thinking of Ben Reilly being a very intelligent, but arrogant, young operator of a negatively-charged particle accelerator used for experimental research. His appearance isn't too different from that of Peter Parker. He hates Spider-Man, though (he sees Spider-Man from Jonah's point of view).
Arrogant as always, Ben is particularly focused on his job. While using an upgraded machine, however, a piece of the accelerator collapses, and the accelerator explodes. The negatively-charged particles, and the radiation expand throughout the room, killing everyone too close to the accelerator. Ben, who happens to be standing far away enough not too be killed instantly, is subjected to the radiation, and the negatively-charged particles that move through his body. Before he is killed, Spider-Man arrives, and, in order to shut the machine down, is forced to move into the radiation.
The particles, radiation, and the contents of the experiment don't quite affect Spider-Man (he has superhuman defenses), but they do affect Ben. As soon as the machine is shut down, Ben is rescued. The contents that surged through his body, combined with the presence of Spider-Man (Spidey's particles), begin to take effect slowly. Although he's trying to live his own life, the confusion causes his life to become much more difficult than before. He begins to have a "dual memory", as in he remembers being Ben, but has also acquired all of Peter's memories, confusing the hell out of him. He also begins to develop Spidey's superhuman abilities.
The contents have also darkened his state of mind, and driven his mind to the brink of instability. As time passes, all of his memories as Ben are spliced together with his 'memories as Peter', and he begins to believe he is the real Spider-Man (he feels all the emotions Peter felt, and, to him, his distorted perception of the past is as real to him as anything).
He creates a suit influenced by his depressing emotions, and the distorted appearance he saw of Spider-Man caused by both 'memories' being spliced together. He (much darker than Spider-Man, mixed in with his previously unpleasant attitude, and the mental effects the radiation/negatively-charged particles are having on him) then searches for Spider-Man in order to kill him, expose him as a fraud, and take his place. While 'fighting crime', he will kill people he believes are evil (despite possibly being innocent). His memories fade in and out, and, at times, he can't think at all. The thoughts in his head become scrambled.
Spider-Man would never allow for people to be killed (Spider-Man doesn't kill), and attempts to prevent the deaths of these people all while dealing with Ben Reilly. The controversy stirs up a commotion at the Bugle, Ben begins to stalk Peter, and tension stirs in Peter's life.
:P And that'd be the premise. It's 5:44 AM for me, so I won't go into detail, but that'd be a pretty cool way to merge Negative Zone Spidey, and Ben Reilly.
Here's a bit of a recolour I did just so people can get some visuals. Ignore the Doc Ock in his eyes. :P
