Comics Ben Reilly...returns?!

My comic shop has tangible issues from next week's Marvel comics, and Friendly is one of them. I looked through it, and all I have to say is...

It's him. It's really Ben Reilly. He has a full beard, but he's got that cynical, kind of light-hearted sense of humor. There's even a clone joke, which he doesn't react well to. He applies for a job at Midtown or something. I didn't have a lot of time, but all I got through was him walking down the road thinking, "Great, I'm working for Flash Thompson." I was wrong. It's not a nickname or codename for Pete. It's a person, around Pete's age, with a beard.

So yeah. Color me surprised.

Oh, and he's blonde.

crivelliman, if you made this up, I'll never forgive you. If this is true though, you just made my year.

If you-know-who does return and "Wizard" renews their lame anti-Ben campaign and tries to pressure Marvel into killing him again, I suggest we counter it by starting a massive snail-mail campaign in support of Ben and flood them with letters praising the character and showing them there's a difference between bringing back Ben and starting a new clone saga.

I'm sick of that mag trying to dictate the direction of Marvel and DC's flagship characters. They are NOT the voice of fandom, despite what they may think.

Amazing #150 was great and didn't deserve all the bastardized crap it spawned. Why can't they just write good ORIGINAL stories. Jeez. These guys must REALLY be damaged, backwards-looking individuals in their personal lives to actually HAVE to revisit previous plots like this...

I gave up collecting mainstream spidey years ago but this is more than an incentive to get right back into it.

uh oh! Hater alert!

let him be he wants more original tales like morlun etc he read jms crapfest, november rain i too havnt picked up a spidey 616 book (excluding spiderman blue and mark millers run on mk spidey) for years, since they killed ben to be exact!

There is a place for ben now but there would have been a better place if parker was actually a father now.

with all the growing up peter would have had to do and with all the extra gadgets and powers and parental responsibilities, ben could be the younger carefree younger brother he never had, a younger brother who has to rely on web shooters and other inventions to keep up with his older bro.

it's all jolly good.

Ok, I'm not a Reilly fan by any stretch, but seeing how it appears he might return, is there any chnace he could still be the original Peter Parker?

well all that other jargen pretty much showed pete was the real deal unless the 'something wrong' aspect morlun referred to wasn;'t the fact that peter has irradiated dna but the fact he's a genetic duplicate of the purer version of himself aka the reilly.

i can't see marvel going down that path again saying that reilly was the original....the idea of ben coming back whether he is a clone or the Scarlet Spider is awesome :)

i think the spidey uni that ben wore was cool and the stories were fresh with ben in them as spidey...hopefully the creative teams could start making some better stories if reilly does in fact return

And If there is a connection between Ben reilly and Miss Arrow the school nurse?

This is kind of what I meant, I would hope its not the case, but they have certainly thrown us a lot of 'feelers' - the other, not a pure version, alternate realities etc

*sigh*... here are the REAL spoilers. crivelliman's spoilers are fake.

Guys hate to be the bearer of bad news, but apparently crivelliman is full of it. A friend of mine who posts on the smb has read the upcoming FNSM front to back (his post is here) and it's just Pete using Ben's ID. A cruel joke on crivelliman's part, a let-down on our part (that's what I get for getting my hopes up) and a nod on PAD/Marvel's part which at least counts for something. At the very least he's being acknowledged and the frenzy over that one tease counts for something. But I really wish he had come back....I equate this to waiting for christmas and then being told christmas is cancelled. Sucks.... :csad:

I agree. The guy who posted the fake spoilers should really feel ashamed but he probably doesn't care about all the hopes he dashed on this board and others. Talk about a need for attention. I've seen those fake spoilers reposted on a whole bunch of different boards.

Lame dude, very, very lame

However all this hype and furor actually showed how many people actually wanted to see Reilly return to the books. With Reilly actually being adressed, I think its safe to say the ban on clones has been officially lifted. Just gotta wait a little longer for the real deal

Yeah you're probably right....Now excuse me while I go stick pins into my crivelliman doll...

That was very mean of him :down

Though I'd be a lying if I said I'm sorry that Ben Reilly will not be returning. It's a period in the Spidey comics I hope is never re-visited.

I'm so gonna get a pic of Kaine killin' Ock and just post it whenever you say that. :)

Go for it

I say again, no to Ben Reilly, or any clone returning.

Not surprising that crivelliman has yet to post here again. If he does we should tell him what we think of him.
