I love or really like all of the ones you've mentioned in the poll, except for Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger and The Avengers.

*OK so the comics came after.:cwink:

This was possibly the most difficult poll I have done on here in 13 years of being a member, there are too many great, great movies on there. In the end, after much thought I had to go with Hellboy as I found it was the only one I couldn't vote against.

Why on earth is the Avengers being classed as a 'first in a series', it's a culmination film, of four years progression. It's not a 'first' installment at all.

Yeah I was a bit confused at its conclusion also.

Lol, this is one of those threads where you can tell who actually read the first post and who didn't.

No Sequels, Prequels, Threequels, or reboots. The films in the poll are or are considered the first major film of their respective film series.

And yes, several MCU movies are in the poll. While they are part of the wider MCU franchise, they are also a franchise unto themselves.

Also, Avengers is a film one can watch without watching the previous Phase 1 movies.

Superman: The Movie.

The granddaddy of them all.

Superman: The Movie
Captain America: The First Avenger
Iron Man
Spiderman
Hellboy / Batman Begins

Avengers wasn't truly the first installment in a series but rather the culmination of previous first installments. Even so I'd probably have it 4th.

I went with Avengers, though I was tempted to go Spiderman.

One does not negate the other. Avengers is both the culmination of previous MCU films and the first installment of a new franchise. And when you watch the first Avengers film, you can see that it was designed that way.

Roger Corman's Fantastic 4, baby.

Seriously, it IS the most faithful adaptation.

But is it good?
Actually I think the film has its merits. It's not a "good movie," but I can enjoy it if I accept it for what it is. The movie actually has a good theme IMO.
