Apologies if this has been asked (a million times) before:
taking into consideration articulation, scale, price etc, but what in all of your oppinions is the best Batman action figure ever?

From left to right: Medicom, Hot Toys, and Takara

thanks, they all seem a bit pricier and larger that i'd like. my collection's a little eclectic, but the 6-7" scale is what i'd idealy go for.

on a side not, it occurs to me that perhaps not a lot of people look at the batman/suerman products page - would it be totally out of line to post the question on the dc comics page?

Haven't seen it yet, but the newest DC Superheroes (wave 3) Batman looks good. It's a 6" figure, costs about $9, has a good amount of articulation, sculpted by the acclaimed Four Horseman, the pics I've seen look really good. It got a really good review on Michael Crawford's website. (http://www.mwctoys.com)

Hm I wouldn't know, I do like Medicom's

...and my favorite Batman figure is the Justice League 10" one. It's a perfect translation of the design into a toy.
In that scale I think the Medicom New Batman Adventures vinyl figure is superior:

... it is essentially a slightly smaller scale version of the highly praised WB maquette.

Wow. I didn't even know that existed. How much was it? Does have any articulation?

Doesn't look like it.
It looks great, but I'm glad I bought that maguette.

the wave 3 batman does look great, but what's up with the symbol on the belt? the pic i saw at the forbidden planet site showed he had a more normal belt buckle - could the UK release be different? i've just purchased the wave 1, but am a little concerned the superman toy i wanted to get (wave 2) is shorter than him (and sport a superwide stance).

Could be a pic of the prototype model. Sometimes details like that differ from what comes out in the stores.

For reference:

... Medicom on the left, WB on the right.

that looks great, could you run through the customisations?

My fav Batman figures:

Mattel Bat Signal Batman
Yes, this is only found in non-US countries, but it is still the perfect Batman figure to date. The paint job is simple and the details may not be as intricate as the latest Wave 3 DCSH Batman, but somehow, the sculpt by 4H and the poseability, plus the best Bat accessory ever, an actual working Bat Signal!

review_deluxebats_13.jpg

Mattel DCSH Batman Wave 1
Although this was essentially a modified Bat Signal Batman, it is still the 2nd best out there for me. A wonderfully sculpted rubber cape replaces the cloth one (either one works for me), and my favourite blue and grey Batman. Accessories lack the Bat Signal, but at least it has less kiddish than the previous Mattel Batman comic line.

review_dcsuper_3.jpg

Mattel Batman Begins Collector Edition

Another non-US figure, and despite it not being the most movie accurate Batman Begins figure out there, it is, however, wonderfully sculpted and using matte paint to replicate a rubberised body armour, it is exquisitely beautiful. One simple accessory, and oversized batarang. And the best cape ever, cloth taken from the original material from the actual batsuit and wired internally to allow poseability.

DC Direct Hust Batman
Tim Bruckner's interpretation of Jim Lee's creation is again, not as comic accurate as say, Kotobukiya's 12inch vinyl version, yet there is a certain grimness and angst displayed in the head sculpt that leaves this one of the most brooding Batman figures out there. Again, excellent sculpting and decent paintwork lifts this to one of the most sought after and admired Batman figures out there.

review_hush_3.jpg

Mattel DCSH Batman Wave 3
This latest Batman figure from 4H/Mattel is the most intricately detailed Batman from Mattel yet. Wonderful details and a very Frank Millerish head makes this one of the most aggressive looking Batmans out there. Multiple batarangs is the main accessory here. But somehow, despite the details and equally excellent paintwork and paintwash, my personal favourite still goes to the earlier Bat Signal Batman.

Kenner Legends of the Dark Knight - The Dark Knight
This series produced one of the most spectacular Batman figures till today. The powerful cape pose of this Batman figure makes up for what is an obvious lack of articulation and only one batarang makes up the single accessory. But the Kelly Jones like fell of the figure and head sculpt, and with some slight paintwash makes this a great display piece even against today's figures

DC Direct Gotham by Gaslight Batman
This very recent figure shows just how good DC can get when they do it right. From the very famous one-shot graphic novel comes this Victorian-looking Batman that is as close as to the comic as it can be. Wonderful paintjob on the costume which includes mud spots on the cape and nice details eg. wrinkles on the costume make this largely realistic and cool.

Yamato Kia Asamiya Batman Wave 2
Yamato has been quite consistent in producing 3 waves of regular Batman lines, and 2 waves of Asamiya inspired figures as well. But the outstanding figure so far has been this Batman figure from wave 2. Terrific pose and a nice chiseled vinyl/resin base makes this one beautiful figure. Only problem, no articulation at all, so it makes this look like a vinyl statue.

DC Direct Alex Ross JLA Batman
This should have been one of the best Batman figures out there. Tim Bruckner's sculpt was perfect, the details wonderfully exceptional and paint job almost there. Except for the eyes, and perhaps this is the 1st DC Batman with actual eyes instead of slits, it makes this almost perfect Batman piece flawed. Other than that, a foldable batarang that can slip behind his utility belt from behind It is not bad, but it could have been great.

I don't see the problem with the Alex Ross figure having pupils in the eyes. Since this is the way Ross paints Batman, the figure is totally accurate in this regard.
BTW, The One figure I am personally eager to see is the DC Direct 13" Classic Batman collector's figure, coming out iin October.

ianlow, does ur mattel wave3 bats have that batsymbol on his belt?

... superior to the original, and more admirable.

A custom version of Zipline in the manner of DE:

... that only lacks a better cape.

yes, i know the alex ross original has pupils, but the issue i have is the pupils are painted rather badly in the final figure. compare it with the original prototype previewed at shows and u will see wat i mean, this was the one big disappointment for me .. i had been lookin forward to this figure since it was previewed .. sigh
